Just happened upon ABC and heard a braindead reporter ask if it was normal for there to be paid expert witnesses (said with an extremely scornful tone as if the idea was repugnant to him), in reference to the self defense expert the defense called. Like, my dude, if I'm going to give up a portion of my day to come testify in a court, spend time beforehand, hours or days worth of time reviewing and preparing things, I sure as hell ain't doing it for free.

How the hell can a professional journalist not know expert "hired guns" are a thing? What is he, nine years old?

Even if we make a bad decision about where we end up, yes. We do not give up the right to defend ourselves because we do something dumb.

I think the chain of events that led to the bad decision also has some importance.

-- Thugs and savages rampaged.

-- Innocent people were injured and had their livelihoods damaged or destroyed.

-- Leftists in charge held back the police.

-- SOMEBODY has to do SOMETHING.

Even at that point, there's scant evidence the kid intended "shoot a bunch of scumbags" to be the "SOMETHING."

I'm going back to the question - should an underaged person have a firearm in public? No.

Does that change the "self-defense" dynamic? No.

They need to focus on what the expert testified regarding "next neighbor" --- the introduced pixel would rely on the "next neighbor" for color, no?

yep. Nearest neighbor just copies the closest pixel exactly. basically nothing is added. so a red pixel would end up being 2 red pixels or 4 red pixels. The result would still look blocky. Bicubic would read a pixel and try to guess what the added pixels should be showing, meaning it adds in-between shades and colors to smooth things out.

also, if you compare the testimony of the paid expert vs the city flunky, you will see the paid expert was well worth the money and is indeed a better expert.

Yes, and I'm sure the reporter is aware of that, but he needs to establish the "correct" narrative.

He outta be --- rather than focusing on "I don't know the actual algorithm", he should just stick with "this is what it does...."

Yes, and some courts will make each side disclose that so we know there's a possibility of bias, but it's a standard practice to hire expert witnesses.
