A thought experiment that has no basis in reality and is therefore a pointless exercise.

When I was a kid, I had a running buddy who had an uncle who had a whole stash of Playboy magazines in his basement. (he actually had a "caged in" area in his basement where he supposedly kept his tools, but all these magazines were piled in there) Greg showed them to me, and, wow... I thought that was amazing! I took one home, and within just a few weeks my Mom found it while changing my bedding. She could have screamed and yelled and pitched a fit, but she very calmly (scaringly calm) sat down with me and explained that "those girls are somebody's daughter, or sister, or...." One of "those" talks. "How would you feel if you opened one of these magazines and saw your sister, or one of your neighbors, or your friend at school...." "If your father had a bunch of these and spent his time looking at them, what does that say about how he values your mother?"

The whole time she was talking to me, she was turning pages in that magazine and making me look at it. That was without a doubt the single most uncomfortable time in my life with my Mom.

Years later, when I found out from one of my younger sisters that she had been sexually abused by one of my older brothers, I had a long talk with my mom about it, and about "our little sit-down". My older brother had gotten into porn, but it didn't stop with porn -- it continued to him violating two of my five younger sisters.

So, I admit, this topic is a little raw and quite a bit personal to me. Porn is NOT the answer.

It's a thought experiment, not my idea, and you're attacking the wrong part.

Plus you, out of the six or so people commenting, are the only person I think actually made any real argument worth talking about, but even then it's you trying to use marketing 101 in a Psychology fight. That's like trying to use Newton in an Einstein fight. It just doesn't work all that well and I say that as someone whose got 15 credit hours of marketing coursework in his Psych degree

So, you can spew forth your dark imaginings, and that's 'good', but opposing it is "boring".

It's actually been rather enlightening --- as to what a perverse mind you have. You're spewing forth IDIOT thoughts -- somehow, engaging in porn is a solution....

Wow, so you spent the correct number of hours sitting in the right room regurgitating the stuff somebody else taught... should we be tremendously impressed?

Flat rejection is no opposition, CP. We're on the damn internet the only way you can oppose someone is with your words, but then we run into a problem because you've already said this is an emotional topic for you so do you really want to go down that road?

EGGzackly! (and to be perfectly clear, Rogue was not "the older brother" I spoke of earlier - and that brother subsequently repented of his sin and behavior)

I'm really sick of you trying to tell me how to post or what to say... I don't run from perverts - I stand up to them. I'm here! You won't find me posting an out-of-control emotional steamer and running away.

School? You mean school? Are we playing "conservative charades" or something? Yeesh man.

And no, why should you be impressed? I got a degree in Psych because it interested me and I knew that my degree didn't matter for my career goals. Doesn't change that I know things like how the basics of research work, the essentials of Psychological Treatment, and various other things better than you. Just the same way that you know cop stuff more than I do and how Seer and Mountain Man go to a ton of websites full of weird anti-semetic crap but they tolerate it because it ALSO talks bad about obama and the gays so they inadvertently know a lot more about how the jews made aids than the two of us do and isnt that just neat?

Several participants in this thread have forever surrendered the right to criticize contemporary college students for being outraged at opposing views instead of engaging in intelligent debate. Don't you snowflakes know the real world doesn't care that you're offended?
                          Don't call it a comeback. It's a riposte.

You think marketing ISN'T psychology? Is is. Very successful psychology that works in the real world. If you do have marketing hours in you psych degree, then you know this. Feeding a desire does not satisfy it. It drives it up. If you show booze to an alcoholic it, it makes him want it more. Even giving a single drink to an alcoholic can undo years of sobriety. You are probably thinking that reducing exposure to it over time will let them fight off the desire, like your mention of the nicotine patch, but it is not the same thing. You are actively feeding the desire by showing them images of the act. You are increasing their desire every time you show it to them, not satisfying it. The cigarette patch satisfies the desire by giving you a bit of it. It would be like letting them rape a child once a week, then once a month, then once a year. I know you aren't suggesting THAT! Showing them images of what they CAN'T have only makes them want it more. You need to change their desire, not feed it.

Look Jaecp, I understand that you were just tossing out a thought experiment. But at this point you should really have seen that it is not a good idea, and just admit that instead of trying to double down and stubbornly keep trying to promote it.
