Home Economics 101

Welcome to the Home Ec Section. Matters of the family sometimes bring joy and other times bring grief. But it is never trivial: Family matters! Feel free to discuss topics such as the sanctity of marriage; the awesome responsibility of raising children; the struggles of communication problems; the grief of losing a loved one; or anything else that relates to the home and family. However, due to the more personal nature of this section, I ask that you would be especially thoughtful of the readers' feelings. My earnest hope and prayer is that the discussions in this section will help families grow in the love of Christ.

But remember, always play by the rules: here

Plus the companies already have requirements for energy sources.
When I was with my former company, I had negotiated a deal for employees with Infinite Energy for a discounted rate. Even though I'm no longer with that company, I still get to take advantage of the rate as long as I keep renewing.

I'm surprised how many people think their only choice is the "actual provider" and they don't shop for rates. In Texas, the Public Utilities Commission hosts a website www.powertochoose.org where you can put in your zip code to find competing rates.

(but a wise and thrifty guy like you probably knew that )
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

Welp...I had an accident with the front passenger fender and don't have collision. So the fridge may have to wait until next month. I'm ok and and the car is drivable, but I discovered AFTER I came home that the passenger door won't open. Looks like the fender is pushing against the edge of the door, but we'll see.

Thanks. Curious to see just what my insurance will cover. I had dropped the collision because my car isn't new (2005) and I didn't really see the point. Bad decision? Dunno.

But what about the zombie apocalypse? You should have at least 10 years of food on hand, just in case. And bullets, lots of bullets. And axes.

I may go with a bottom freezer model if I hit the right sale next week.

in the meantime, a warning about buying a deep freezer in a poke: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/06/03...yard-sale.html

                    it isn't funny...but still...

                    • I don't think a freezer would fit in a poke.
Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

                        • Woot has a nice refurbished FoodSaver vacuum sealer on sale today for $39.95 (which is odd since they told me they don't repair broken units, so it must mean they are actually brand freaking new units, that people returned and the factory found out they were perfectly fine)

                          http://home.woot.com/offers/foodsave...cnt_gw_dly_img

Woot only sells an item for 1 day, until they run out. So if you want it you have to get it ASAP. Shipping is $5

It does come with the accessory hose and some bags, but no canisters. It doesn't look like it has a "marinate" function either.

                              • Ever heard of the really cheap sealing method where one puts a Zip lock bag into water? Apparently that forces all the air out just like vacuum sealing. I remember doing that when I was living at home but don't recall why.
