Deeper Waters Forum Guidelines

Notice The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.

Deeper Waters is founded on the belief that the Christian community has long been in the shallow end of Christianity while there are treasures of the deep waiting to be discovered. Too many in the shallow end are not prepared when they go out beyond those waters and are quickly devoured by sharks. We wish to aid Christians to equip them to navigate the deeper waters of the ocean of truth and come up with treasure in the end.

We also wish to give special aid to those often neglected, that is, the disabled community. This is especially so since our founders are both on the autism spectrum and have a special desire to reach those on that spectrum. While they are a special emphasis, we seek to help others with any disability realize that God can use them and that they are as the Psalmist says, fearfully and wonderfully made.

No. He is reported to have fed 5,000. Know what kind of evidence would be left behind of that? None. All of it could be explained away entirely. Rose from the dead? Yeah. That was theft or hallucination or something of that sort. This was actually an age where the intellectual elite were quite skeptical of miracles. All of these would be things explained away and people seen as delusional for thinking that they happened.

Furthermore, 5000 people in an area like that would be a drop in a bucket.

Before Josephus switching over to the Roman side, he was sent to Rome in 64AD, as (Joseph bar Matthew) the governor of Galilee.
Josephus went to Rome as a political official to negotiate a deal with the emperor Nero for the release of several Jewish priests being held on “trivial charges“ in Rome.

Josephus as the governor of Galilee met with the Roman emperor Nero and his wife Poppea, and there was no talk of any sect of the Jews called Christians or a messiah named Jesus Christ or an Apostle Paul turning the world upside down!

There was also nothing mentioned about Christians burning down part of the city, or being fed to the lions in the arena because they wouldn't serve the emperor and denounce Jesus Christ.

These supposed Christian Persecutions in the 1st century AD, were written about in the 2nd and 3rd centuries by selected Roman Church fathers that were working for the Roman Caesar's and were financially supported by these Emperors to write these lies and further Romes agenda!

The Essene's and many other splinter groups throughout the centuries were being Persecuted by the Roman's.

These persecutions were purposely “set up” and attributed to certain groups by the emperors to create sympathy and attract new followers to their new religion Christianity.

The Romans created and maintained a number of religions, to control the common people and keep them in fear of the emperor and also Gods judgment.

These bloody persecutions that were being attributed to the Christians by the Roman propaganda machine helped distance Christianity from it’s true Roman origins, and were used to eliminate the people who were catching on to the Roman plan to invent Christianity and subvert the Jewish religion with the peaceful pay your taxes messiah story of Jesus Christ.

I need more than a reference. I need an argument from leading scholars. So far, you have consulted zero scholars. Atwill is not a scholar at all. The world of scholarship does not take him seriously. If Richard Carrier even says your theory is crazy, that says a lot!

Also, no. The Romans did not create religions to control. New religions were looked at with suspicion. Try again please.

Looks like it. He's already gone from

I would like to present my evidence which is probably not good enough for most of you but for me it was convincing enough

But I didn't see where he actually presented any evidence here. Or is it all on his blog? or did he send it only to Nick?

I guess AP's questioning of the evidence from the blog was enough.

And if that happened today, do you think it would make the six o'clock news? Not a chance - To quote a non-historical source, but one that highlights the situation: "You Jews bring us messiahs by the sack full." The advent of a "messiah" reputed to be a teacher and healer and leading the uneducated masses astray was nothing of any great import - it was a regular event. Given that this particular "messiah" did not promote any sort of opposition to Rome, there wasn't even a little bit of conflict to report on. (BTW - there are no records of Pilate's activities in Judea - only a single stele exists to show that he was even present.) This was nothing more than a petty squabble between sects of an unimportant religion adhering to an insignificant god.

Contemporaneous, non Biblical, and records highly critical of Jesus of Nazareth do exist. Those are the records of the Jews themselves - of those among them vehemently opposed to Christ. From the 16th** century until the mid 20th century, copies of those records were edited by the Jews themselves. Initially, spaces were left to show that the records were being elided, but later, that practice was abandoned. A scant few uncensored pre 16th century copies of the critical records do, however, exist. **actually from the 5th, but the 16th marks the time when editing was forced by the churches.

The story regarding Christ from the viewpoint of the critics He was a sorcerer leading Israel astray ("leading Israel astray" was a capital offence under the OT law). His mother had an adulterous affair with one Pantera, a Roman Soldier, from which his conception followed. He was brought before the Sanhedrin (notably: not a meeting of the Sanhedrin fully assembled). He was executed. The story that there are no contemporaneous records is a crock.

Much is made of the dating of the gospels to, at the earliest, 40 years or so after the crucifixion. Simple fact, the letter to the Romans was written before the gospels were. As to why the gospels were not written earlier, the explanation is simple - the apostles fully expected that Jesus would return within their own life-times. That fact is recorded within various epistles. Until it became apparent that Christ would not make an immediate return, there was no impetus to commit the gospel to writing.
