Deeper Waters Forum Guidelines
Notice The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.
Deeper Waters is founded on the belief that the Christian community has long been in the shallow end of Christianity while there are treasures of the deep waiting to be discovered. Too many in the shallow end are not prepared when they go out beyond those waters and are quickly devoured by sharks. We wish to aid Christians to equip them to navigate the deeper waters of the ocean of truth and come up with treasure in the end.
We also wish to give special aid to those often neglected, that is, the disabled community. This is especially so since our founders are both on the autism spectrum and have a special desire to reach those on that spectrum. While they are a special emphasis, we seek to help others with any disability realize that God can use them and that they are as the Psalmist says, fearfully and wonderfully made.

You, and a number of other thoughtful Christians, have decried those Christians who decry Trump supporting Christians. But what do you make of Christians like Robert Jeffress who call Christians who disagree with Trump "spineless morons"?"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

Have you bothered to search out that quote of Galli's about elitism and not knowing anyone who voted for Trump? I have not found any source, only the snippet of quote.
From what I have found I think that it is taken out of context, in short, fake news. A quote taken out of context is a pretext. But it has taken root and many Christians are repeating it.
Has anyone here read the book Still Evangelical?, which has the essay containing the quote?

There is the immediate context of the essay. There is also the broader context of Galli's writing, and he has a significant amount out there. There is also the context of Galli's role as editor of a major Christian magazine, a magazine which publishes views which are different than Galli's. I am sure that Galli has read Christianity Today, each issue and every article.
The assertion that the quote of Galli shows that he is unfamiliar with the worldview that accepts Trump I find troubling, troubling that it has gained so much traction among Christians.
I don't read the quote as a defense of elitism, in the sense that many take it.Last edited by simplicio; 01-01-2020, 03:49 AM.

What Galli is doing is this: he implies that these people are not true Evangelicals, they are not true Christians. Unsurprisingly, that creates a furor. Also equally unsurprisingly, he pretends to be shocked that people are so angry and that it is unjustified. Equally unsurprisingly, some people who like to play the fake moderate (like you) try to cover for him.Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.
