Deeper Waters Forum Guidelines

Notice The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.

Deeper Waters is founded on the belief that the Christian community has long been in the shallow end of Christianity while there are treasures of the deep waiting to be discovered. Too many in the shallow end are not prepared when they go out beyond those waters and are quickly devoured by sharks. We wish to aid Christians to equip them to navigate the deeper waters of the ocean of truth and come up with treasure in the end.

We also wish to give special aid to those often neglected, that is, the disabled community. This is especially so since our founders are both on the autism spectrum and have a special desire to reach those on that spectrum. While they are a special emphasis, we seek to help others with any disability realize that God can use them and that they are as the Psalmist says, fearfully and wonderfully made.

Kind of a weak argument. The Romans and ancient Egyptians had the same philosophy as their empires were in full decline.

I have been mulling over the idea of whether objective beauty exists for the last couple of weeks in light of it being raised as a topic in Facebook apologist circles. The obvious question is what the standard is. The one thing that arises feelings of the numinous in me is music; not so much visual art. However, the music that most resonates with me is what my wife (classically trained in music, no less) insists is objectively dissonant and repulsive. I like progressive/symphonic metal. If she is right, what am I to make of my own reactions?

However, I cannot look at a fractal pattern that naturally appears in nature and dismiss this as anything other than beauty endowed in nature by God.

KG. What would you make of it if you had different moral positions strongly on a certain issue? No moral truth. Strong differences can exist. I'm not a musician so I can't really comment on the music, except that Allie and I radically differ on music. I did just do a Mentionables Podcast and Clinton Wilcox spoke some on music and he's on Facebook as well.

That was the same rejoinder that I saw raised last time this came up but I simply don't think the analogy works. The Bible does define morality in an objective sense so from a Christian perspective we can demonstrate that, presupposing the truth of the worldview that is. The same cannot be said for beauty.

Then do you think you live in a world where there is truly no beauty, not even in God?
