  • Surah 4:171: Was Jesus ONLY a messenger?

    Surah 4:171

    M. M. Pickthall O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not "Three" - Cease! (it is) better for you! - Allah is only One Allah. Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender.

Shakir O followers of the Book! do not exceed the limits in your religion, and do not speak (lies) against Allah, but (speak) the truth; the Messiah, Isa son of Marium is only a messenger of Allah and His Word which He communicated to Marium and a spirit from Him; believe therefore in Allah and His messengers, and say not, Three. Desist, it is better for you; Allah is only one Allah; far be It from His glory that He should have a son, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His, and Allah is sufficient for a Protector.

Isn't the fact that Jesus is the Messiah mean that He was more than a messenger?

    Thanks.

Good that you asked for this clarification, Christian3.

MESSIAH in the koran and islam is just an empty title for the 'prophet coming before muhamed the so-called 'seal of the profits'.
I asked a muslim before what this word meant, the reply: "the massaged one"..! That is a description of what is done to the CHrist, but whats the significance? Practically nothing...

The Old Testament and biblical idea that came from the OT anointing of the chosen ones of God, is actually lost on islam and the koran.

Like the public choosing of the shepherd boy David by Samuel in 1 Samuel, who anointed David to become the future King of Israel is absent in the koran.

David was set apart by the anointing of Prophet Samuel - a foreshadowing of the "Jesus Christ to come" who as the chosen Messiah, the anointed one by God, Who was also set apart by GOD to become "the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the World," according to John the Baptist in John 1: 29, also known as nabi Yahya in the koran Jesus Christ's cousin.

Who fictionalised the ministry of Jesus as the Lamb of God? The Christians? John the Baptist, nabi Yahya or God Himself?

Obviously God Himself, hence it was no fiction - even John the Baptist recognised the mission of the Messiah CHRIST, was to take away the sins of the world - as the Saviour.

The koran blatantly evacuates and removes this meaning and significance of the divinely appointed Title of Jesus "Messiah" ie. THE Christ. Another blatant example of flawed and erroneous revisionism of the Scriptures by a pretentious 'revelation' that only came 700 years AFTER the coming of Christ and the Gospel record.

Christians have the true Messiah Christ, not Islam nor the Koran.

According to the Scriptures, yes. ABSOLUTELY YES!!!

What a shame the author of the Qur'an, whoever or whaever he or they may have been, didn't understand that Scriptural fact.

Here are some of the prophecies of the Messiah in the Old Testament and their fulfillment in the New Testament:

        https://parish.rcdow.org.uk/swisscot...-Fulfilled.pdf

There are no prophecies of Muhammad anywhere in the Bible.

Jesus called Himself the Son of Man, a divine figure in Daniel 7:

13 I saw in the visions of the night, and behold with the clouds of the heaven, one like a man was coming, and he came up to the Ancient of Days and was brought before Him.

Rashi's comments: one like a man was coming: That is the King Messiah.

14 And He gave him dominion and glory and a kingdom, and all peoples, nations, and tongues shall serve him; his dominion is an eternal dominion, which will not be removed, and his kingdom is one which will not be destroyed.

Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, = messenger, word, spirit from God. The word "Masih" itself means "annointed one" as in person/thing annointed with oil....as per the original Jewish meaning of the word.

King Cyrus of Persia is refereed to as Messiah/Masih by the Jews because he brought the Jews back to Jerusalem and rebuilt their Temple.

IMO, the title of Masih that the Quran gives to Jesus Christ is because he is the last Jewish Prophet sent to the Jews. (Prophet Muhammed was not Jewish)

There is a big difference between being A messiah and being THE Messiah.

Really? Muhamed was NO prophet that was ever mentioned in the Old Testament or the New Testament or by any of the prophets and leaders in the Bible.

If anything muhamed bin Abdullah, the quraish Arab born around 570 AD in Mecca, was already predicted by Jesus Christ per:-

              Matthew 24: 23-24:

"Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There he is!’ do NOT believe it.

For false christs and FALSE PROPHETS will arise and perform great signs and wonders, SO AS TO LEAD ASTRAY if possible, even the elect."

Muhamed fits the above prophecy to a Tee and fulfils it entirely. God never said an Arab prophet will bring blessings to Mankind after Christ's coming.

Jesus Christ is not just a prophet but MUCH MORE than that. He is THE one and only Son of God, and King of Kings and incomparably superior to your pathetic Muhamed bin Abdullah of Mecca, siam and hakeem.
