Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

More Ecclesiastes: (5:18) "Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him-for this is his lot."

Proverbs 20:11 "Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right."

Qoheleth was already controversial in Jewish contexts, and then also among Christians. It is also one of my favorite books of the Hebrew scriptures.

I have followed first floor for some time, and yes he has his moments, but in general he does not exhibit trollish behavior.

While I agree that reading one's theology into a text is equally bad, it almost inevitably goes hand in hand with ignoring context, not paying attention to it.
It seems reasonable to consider whether Christian theology prevents a person from properly understanding the Bible?
    No.

Ecclesiastes 3:15- What now is has already been; what is to be, already is!

Not a fan of the whole 'favorite verse' idea - they tend to get divorced from context.

    Philippians 2:9-11

9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,

10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
