Where in the text does it say that He did?

God kills Nadab and Abihu for lighting some fire and Uzzah for righting the ark but is quiet when David has sex with many women and Jephthah kills his daughter as a sacrifice for the LORD. This is very strange.

One wonders why Jephthah is credited with great faith if he's an imbecile who killed his own daughter thinking God would accept her as a burnt offering.

The point is God knows us; he knew Abraham and Isaac well but the same can't be said about them.
How many times did a believer begin to doubt his/her belief in God in the bible?
How many followers stopped halfway when God gave them a direction to do something?
Maybe Abraham was going to sacrifice his son(he more than likely was), but God stopped it and the way I see it, it was a way for God to prove his love for Abraham/mankind.

The fact that the Bible condemns child sacrifice elsewhere (Leviticus 20) for instance.

The fact that it is later condemded has nothing to do with the fact that it was practiced prior to that. Besides Leviticus 20 does not condemn child sacrifice, it condemns the Israelites sacrificing their child to molech. It also prescribes all kinds of atrocious penalties for sins, for which Jesus later says "he who has not sinned cast the first stone. Contradiction!
