Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

  • Synoptics and John: Day of Crucifixion

    Crucifixion day1.jpg

It is evident that the Synoptic Gospels, and not just John only, portray Jesus and the disciples eating the last supper before the Jews sacrifice their Passover. It is also evident that the Synoptic Gospels show Jesus and the disciples conducting the sacrifice* before their meal*, on the designated day for conducting the sacrifice*.

    {{For the sake of those who cannot understand the role of context, * indicates "of the Passover."}}

Who compiled this and from where did they get their timings?

For the most part, it comes direct from the Bible. The Hebrew calendar sets daybreak at sunset, so anything that happens during daylight hours occurs on the same date and day as anything that happened during the prior night or after the prior sunset (evening).

That is not exactly what I asked. Who compiled it and from where [and how] did they arrive at their timings - for example 22.41 and 23.46?

As neither the gospel of Mark nor John has a chapter 22 or 23 I am assuming those numbers refer to the 24 hour clock.

The 22:21 is a typo, it should be 14:12, The Rightmost column, Blue Highlight indicates Mark, Yellow Highlight indicates Luke, John is in black in the adjacent column.
The table is part of a power-point presentation, so some parts rely on commentary during the presentation.

Oh so they are chapter references.

So who compiled this and to what purpose?

Apparently that is a misprint . I thought it was a 24 hour clock reference as well but they are chapter references.

I am still trying to ascertain who compiled this, and to what purpose was this power-point created.

And the slide is signed, BTW.

Looking at the name and what appears to be the same in ?Japanese? do we know who Sabiro Sutan/Sutan Sabiro is and what was their purpose in creating this powerpoint? Was it for some sort of Sunday school/Catechism lesson? Did you find it on the web?

It is part of a course-in-development that could be described as "intensive Bible study." A name for the course hasn't actually been decided as yet.

Instead of fretting so much over who made the power point (as if it mattered) perhaps you should deal with what is asserted by it.

I am intrigued as to why this was created and for what purpose.

As for the contention, it seems to be one of those attempts to desperately prove the gospels do not contradict one another concerning this event.

But there is nothing in the Power Point that can be logically challenged, insofar as I can tell. The only possible recourse then is to make the author's identity and motive an issue. Doing so will at least help to prevent having to actually engage with the claims.
