Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

I actually cited ONE academic - Gary Dickson. However, Zeigler also refers to the Italian disciplinati and the origins of the movement in the 1200s.
I don't recall running across it in tab's posts, but you go way overboard with it to the point of having coding for fonts in between coding to cancel all of those fonts.

I guess if I was H_A this would be the point that I look for an excuse to handwave off Dickson (something like, not an expert; not his area of expertise; his book isn't multi-volume; he once improperly interred some remains...) you know the routine

I'm always still in trouble again

You just cannot bring yourself to admit your error, can you?

I think we can satisfactorily conclude that Dickson knows his subject area.

Gary Dickson began his academic career as a graduate of Stanford from which he became a Woodrow Wilson Fellow at Yale University before coming to the University of Edinburgh to complete his PhD under Denys Hays, where he then became a lecturer and finally a reader in history. After retiral, he was made an honorary fellow. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and was elected in 1997 to Membership of the Institute for Advanced Study, School of Historical Studies, Princeton. In 1996-7 he delivered a series of eight Wilde Lectures in Natural and Comparative Religion at Oxford University on the theme of 'Medieval Pentecostalism'. He published The Children's Crusade: Medieval History, Modern Mythistory (Palgrave Macmillan, 2007) and Religious Enthusiasm in the Medieval West: Revivals, Crusades, Saints (Ashgate, 2000). He has also published in a wide number of journals, including Church History, Journal of Medieval History, Revue d'Histoire Ecclésiastique, Journal of Ecclesiastical History, Studies in Church History and the Journal of the History of Childhood & Youth. He was the co-editor of a Special Issue on ‘Charisma’ and he has contributed to a number of volumes, including The Crusades: an Encyclopedia, Dante and the Church, and Under Fire: Childhood in the Shadow of War.

'tis true enough that I sometimes do wind up with clutter, but mostly it is just a matter of playing with formatting for underscoring, superscript, colour and so on. It does make a copy hard to read.

With H_A's posts, if there is too much of it, I copy and paste from the posted comments.

I generally have to keep scrolling back up to the post and reread it so I can make it out. The back and forth gets old.

An interesting little exchange between yourself and tabibito that digresses so very conveniently from you having to acknowledge your error concerning the medieval origins of these flagellant movements.

I know you have problems reading past the first word, meaning you miss a lot of things like the word volume, but see the second paragraph of post #59. It's a paragraph not just a word so you really shouldn't have missed it. Then again, maybe that's your comprehension issues kicking in.

Now, with that done, you are once again living up to your pseudonym, Hypocrite_Again in demanding something that you never provide. Do you want me to post a list of just some of just your more major flubs that you steadfastly refused to acknowledge?

Rogue did post a grudging admission that his information was deficient, if I read it correctly.

I wouldn't use the word "grudging" but I wouldn't argue against those who did.

My problems with reading are no worse than are are your own on occasion.

Nor did I dig up "some historians" I cited Dickson whose specialism is that period.

I shall assume your remark was jocular. However, do you not consider such extreme behaviours by these Christian ascetics to be sado-masochistic and displaying the symptoms of various psychoses?
