Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

  • THE IDENTITY OF GOD THE MOTHER [pneumatology (the holy spirit)]

Until we genuinely ask the Holy Spirit who She is we will only know a Ghost.

I’ve been studying some pneumentology and just put something quick together of what I’ve basically been learning as far as the Mothers basic identity and stuff. The sources down bellow are not all my material and is ment for peps new to this information to get a simple easy grasp of who the Holy Spirit is. Nothing deep or exhaustive just basic overview stuff as I usually do. Hope it’s an interesting read for some of yah. Have a blessed day.

Being the least understood person of the Trinity The Holy Spirit is Among the myths and the mistaken concepts that are shared, She has been described as a force, a ghost, a bird and a second-class or replacement god. She is confused with the manifestations themselves, and has even been presented as an incidental figure that appears momentarily.

It is vital for the church to know the Spirit, learn to relate to Her, and understand how She manifests Herself. That is what we’ll cover here.

The Holy Spirit Is Not A Dove

John did not see a dove, but he did see someone.

The Greek words used here are (bodily) “sōmatikŏs” which means “a whole body” and (form) “ĕidŏs” which means “appearance of shape.” So John literally saw a “body image” come down from heaven and he described this image as “like a dove.” You will notice the phrase “like a dove” does not mean an actual dove was seen—it is a simile. A dove and God’s Holy Spirit are very different from each other (one is an animal and the other is God)—but similarities can still be drawn.

The description “like a dove” is a simile for female beauty. Therefore, God is not a dove, but the Spirit of God is beautiful like a dove.

What John saw was what Jeremiah prophesied about long ago: “For the Lord has created a new thing in the land [of Israel]: a female shall encompass (surround on all sides, shield and lead) a man.” –Jer. 31:22. The most natural way for John to describe this vision of the Holy Spirit encompassing Jesus at his baptism was to say “the Holy Spirit descended like a dove.”

The Holy Ghost cannot be transformed into a dove; but the sign of a dove was given to John who had baptized Jesus to signify the truth of the deed, as the dove is an emblem or token of truth and innocence.

The term “dove” is used often throughout the Bible (including the Old Testament Apocrypha) to describe females:

-you will be like the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold. –Ps. 68:11-13, NRSV

-You have dove’s eyes behind your veil –Song of Solomon 4:1, NRSV

-slave women led away, moaning like doves –Nahum. 2:7, NRSV

The dove is only one of many symbols used for the Holy Spirit. Other popular symbols include a flame (as in Acts 2), wind, a lamp, cloud, water, and oil.

The Personhood of the Holy Spirit

-sHe acts as a person—living, teaching, testifying, convicting, guiding, and speaking.

-sHe has a personality, as shown by His will, thoughts, and knowledge.

-sHe is called by many names, including Spirit of God, Spirit of Christ, and Spirit of Holiness—all of which represent His divine nature.

-sHe can be treated like a person: He can be lied to, resisted, obeyed, and called on.

-she has insight . This means that she knows things (1 Cor 2:11). For example, sHe knows the thoughts of God. It requires intellect ( 1 Cor 2:11) in order to know things.

she can be grieved (Isa 63:10)

she can be blasphemed agaisnt (Mt 12:32 Mk 3:29-30)

she can be resisted (Acts 7:51)

she is to be obeyed (Acts:10)

    () she has a will (1 Cor 12:11, James 1:18)

()she has a mind (Rom 8:27, Eph 1;17)

    (she has emotions (Eph 4;30)

    (). sHe convicts of sin

    (). sHe performs miracles

    (). sHe guides

    (). sHe intercedes between persons

(). sHe can be lied to, resisted, grieved, blasphemed, even insulted

(). sHe relates to the disciples of Christ

(), as well as to Jesus and the Heavenly Father

(). It’s impossible to speak this way about an impersonal force. All of these attributes are evidence of His personal nature.

SHE IS THE SEAL OF GOD

The principle idea of sealing is ownership. the beliver is sealed with the spirit to identify the believer as belongding to GOD. Branding cattle would be a parallel. it takes place at the time of regeneration and inddwelling (Eph. 1:13, 4:29-30) and provides eternal security ( 2 Cor. 1:21-22). All belevers are baptised by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12:13)

The Authority of The Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit authority is practical revelation.

God’s grace provides His Spirit to establish spiritual things in our natural lives. He is the power by which the supernatural purposes of God are revealed and fulfilled in and through us. While eternally and completely Spirit, His role is practical and is directed towards the day-to-day living and working of every believer. Holy Spirit authority, therefore, includes the release of power in a practical and meaningful way to fulfil God’s purposes. The reality is that we cannot hope to be obedient or even desire to be obedient without the work of the Spirit. We also cannot do God’s work effectively in and of our own strength and cannot know His wll. Everything of God must be empowered by Him through the Spirit. Anointing for ministry is a good example because it carries His authority which empowers the anointing in us to enable us to do His will.

This is the intended role of the Spirit in our lives, to be as practical and as ‘ordinary’ as our day-to-activities. Her power or sovereignty is not diminished by the practical nature of Her work. Rather, it indicates the degree of yieldedness to Her authority, a surrender of each small detail rather than a generic surrender which leaves room for our own interpretation or expectation. Holy Spirit authority must function in every detail and at every juncture of our lives and work. We must acknowledge His sovereignty at all times.

The activity of the Spirit Boarders on Violence. While animals provide companionship, the angels service but the spirits task is singular, to drive (ekballo ἐκβάλλω )Christ out into the wilderness Mk 1:12–13 (the same why He would drive out demons from bodies, leporsy from human bodies, money changers from the temple

Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him. But WHOEVER SPEAKS AGAINST The HOLY SPIRIT, it shall NOT BE FORGIVEN HIM, either in this World or in the World to come. (Mat 12:32 MKJV)

    1 Corinthians 2:4-5, KJV

4And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

    Romans 5:1-5

5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

THE SERVITUDE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

    Genesis 2:18 (NKJV)

Servanthood is part of the divine nature. Servanthood did not originate in time, but in eternity; not on earth, but in heaven. Each member of the Trinity is about the Glory and service of the other.

this (Ezer Kenegdo) carries the same meaning the we have of the Holy Spirit in the Greek New Testament when He is called Comforter in the English, but Paraklẽtos in the Greek; Paraklẽtos, means, ‘One call alongside, to strengthen, help, counsel and advocate on behalf of another.’ The Holy Spirit is first the Father’s Paraklẽtos before She is ours as the body of Christ.

In Hebrew the word used is Ezer Kenegdo (עֵזֶר כְּנֶגְדּוֹ) ,a difficult word to translate into English or any other language. Ezer (עֵזֶר ) has originally two meanings in Hebrew, depending on the pronunciation: to rescue/to save and to be strong.Kenegdo (כְּנֶגְדּוֹ) means opposite as to or corresponding as to.

In the Old Testament the word Ezer is used 21 times. “Ezer” is used:

    1. Ezer used for the woman.-Genesis 2:18Genesis 2:20

    2. Ezer used for nations to whom Israel appealed for military aid.- Isaiah 30:5 Ezekiel 12:14 Daniel 11:34

    3. Ezer used for God as Israel’s helper.- Exodus 18:4 Deuteronomy 33:7 Deuteronomy 33:26 Deuteronomy 33:29 Psalm 20:2 Psalm 33:20 Psalm 70:5 Psalm 89:19 Psalm 115:9 Psalm 115:10 Psalm 115:11 Psalm 121:1 Psalm 121:2 Psalm 124:8 Psalm 146:5 Hosea 13:9

What these Bible verses have in common is that Ezer is used consistently in military context. The Ezer is a warrior.

Ezer describes aspects of God’s character – he is our strength, our rescuer, our protector and our help! And ezer was the Holy Spirit’s choice of word to describe the first woman. Eve was someone who would provide valuable and vital strength and assistance to Adam.

    Ezer is used only twenty-one times in the Old Testament. Three times the word is used in a military context. Twice it is used to refer to Eve, and sixteen times it is used in reference to God as a helper. All of these verses are talking about a vital, powerful kind of help;

in the 24th chapter of Genesis, which describes how Abraham commissioned his most trusted servant (probably Eliezer, a picture of the Spirit) to find a bride for his son, Isaac. There are four unique “types” in this account. Abraham is a type of God the Father; Isaac is a type of God’s Son, Jesus; Rebecca is a type of the bride of Christ, the Church. But what about Abraham’s servant? Although never given a name, he is actually the main character in this story! He is a “type” of the Holy Spirit. As a servant, he had one supreme objective: to find the young woman who was to be the bride. Having found her, his task was then to equip and adorn her; and to escort her safely to the bridegroom. It was for a similar purpose that the Holy Spirit came down to earth at Pentecost. She is here with one supreme objective: to find, equip, and adorn the bride of Christ, the Church. She is the one who will escort her safely through this world and present her to Jesus—a pure and spotless bride. One main characteristic of the Holy Spirit, like Abraham’s servant, is that she never attracts attention to herself. Here is a literal translation of some of the statements Jesus made about Her: “He will testify of Me...” (John 15:26); “...He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak...” (John 16:13); “...He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you” (John 16:14).

Ultimately, we have only one master (Matt. 23:8-12). We are servants of God.

Christians are directed to be submissive to one another in Ephesians 5:21 (cf. 1 Pet. 5:5 NKJV). the Greek verb hypotassō as having a sense of submission, deference, loyalty, and cooperation.

THE FILLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

the 2 types of filling are Pleroo (Eph.5:18) and Pimplemi (Acts 4:8,4:31,13:9) Pleroo means to be influenced, dominated or controlled by. Pimplemi purpose is to empower a person to perform Gospel ministy.

We arent commanded to have a pimplemi filling, its by GOD’s sovereign choice to fill the individual.

    Gender of the Holy Spirit

Note: sex is defined as characteristics that are biologically defined, whereas gender is based on socially constructed features. The Spirit is not a Female/Woman, she is feminine. All 3 members posses both genders but the Mother is Predominantly Famine while the Father and So Are Predominantly Masculine. Each member of the godhead is also represented in scripture using the opposite gender for both genders are present in the godhead as a whole.

-Genesis 1:27 where it is said that God created male and female after his image. If this text is received in truth, then something feminine is inherent to God.

-Since the concept of the Holy Spirit originates in the Hebrew language of the Tanakh, and since Elohim (the plural Hebrew noun indicating the plurality of the Godhead) reveals himself as both male and female (Gen 1:26–27), it is, therefore, illogical to refer to the Holy Spirit in the masculine gender in Acts 8:16. The word אלוהים “Elohim,” which figures in the Bible, we will find that it is a feminine noun [אלוה] with a masculine plural ending [ים]. The exact translation of such a noun is “gods and goddesses.”

TRANSLATING THE GENDER OF THE MOTHER IN THE BIBLE

    Foundational Teachings

    1.The pronoun “He” used in reference to the Holy Spirit in the New Testament is a translation, but not necessarily the correct translation;

    2.The Greek word for spirit is “pneuma”–a gender neutral word;

    3.The Hebrew word for spirit is “ruach”–a feminine word;

4.The Greek pronoun “autos” means “he, she, or it;”

5.Choosing the correct pronoun (he, she, or it) in regards to the word “pneuma” must come from knowing the person we are addressing.

The translators of the Bibles which we all read had all chosen to use “he” or “it,” but never “she.” Even though “she” seemed to be an option:

    -The Rule in Greek

Grammar: When a pronoun is used to refer to another noun it must agree with the noun in the same gender. the Gospel of John is a violation of this rule with respect to the Holy Spirit. The writer, the Apostle John, substituted masculine pronouns to show the personality of the Holy Spirit.

-It would be wrong to state that the image of the Holy Spirit as our true mother is based solely on the fact that the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Syriac terms for “spirit” are almost always feminine.

-The Holy Spirit is neither male nor female in Her essence, she is properly referred to in the feminine by virtue of Her relation to creation and biblical revelation.

-The Spirit’s role in the universe is feminine; this does not make it’s gender feminine any more than you men are “womanized” at the wedding supper of the Lamb.

-In truth, the very first Christians, all of whom were Jews by birth, spoke of the feminine Holy Spirit. The early church equated with the (grammatically feminine) Wisdom of God. For Theophilus of Antioch (d. 180) and by Irenaeus (d. 202/3). However, the majority of theologians have, historically, identified Wisdom with Christ the Logos.

-The Catholic Church took Mother’s title for itself.

-During the fifth century in ancient Rome, the Greek and Hebrew pronouns that denote “spirit” abruptly changed to masculine gender. When the early Roman Church translated the Greek and Hebrew texts to Latin, our perfect Mother changed to a “Him.” Today the masculine pronoun still applies to the Holy Spirit, angels, and our own heavenly souls.

-Before the Bible texts came to Rome, the feminine Rúach was replaced with Pneuma,a Greek noun which carries no gender. Then, in the first Latin Bible (Vulgate, c. 384 CE), the Roman Catholic Church replaced Pneuma with the masculine Spiritus. In short, these major gender shifts in the person of the Holy Spirit have made it next to impossible to locate our loving Mother in today’s western Christian bibles.

    Implications

The Motherhood of The Holy Spirit

We know that GOD The FATHER is called AB or ABBA in Hebrew. His Wife, the GOD The MOTHER, is called IMMA. And their only begotten Son is GOD The SON, Jesus Christ.

GOD IS A FAMILY (Ephesians 3:14-15).

GOD The FATHER created the Human Family, which is patterned after His own GOD FAMILY. If a Human Family has its Human MOTHER, it is just natural that the GOD FAMILY also has its GOD The MOTHER.

God’s most Powerful and Holy Family Name is YUD-HEI-VAV-HEI (YHVH). GOD The FATHER is the YUD called ABBA in Hebrew. His Wife, the Upper HEI is GOD The MOTHER called IMMA.

And VAV is Christ their ONLY begotten Son. The Wife or BRIDE OF CHRIST is the Lower HEI. When Christ marries His BRIDE at His Glorious Return, the Holy Name YHVH becomes Complete and One (Revelation 19:7-9).

Being pregnant is not something that Jesus was able to experience... the Holy Spirit’s experience in that department... the re-birthing of every Christian as well as the birth of the church and the groaning pains of all creation itself as they wait in ‘labour’ until the fullness of time. She really can relate the the experience of pregnancy

    Her attributes

    •Giving spiritual birth to us,

    •providing him a family

    •comforting us

•carrying out the Fathers work in managing the universe

•She is a mother eagle who rescues and protects

•She is a gentle cooing dove -Luke 3:22

Hints to The Holy Spirit as GOD The MOTHER (Exodus 20:12, Matthew 1:18, 12:31-32, Luke 1:35, John 3:3-12).

The Queenship of The Holy Spirit

    To Recap:

This (Ezer Kenegdo) carries the same meaning the we have of the Holy Spirit in the Greek New Testament when she is called Comforter in the English, but Paraklẽtos in the Greek; Paraklẽtos, means, ‘One call alongside, to strengthen, help, counsel and advocate on behalf of another.’ The Holy Spirit is first the Father’s Paraklẽtos before she is ours as the body of Christ. This is a role and an office for that She has in the Godhead. The Mother is the Counselor in the Godhead, but the Father is the one who gives direction or the directives for every course of action (for He has the plan). The Holy Spirit is the Fathers helper.

If the Spirit is a Mother that assumes she is also a wife and the wife of the King at that meaning she is then The Queen.

The Benefits of the Spirit as Mother

-A feminine Holy Spirit clarifies how women can also be said to be created in the “image of God”. It has long been recognized that he Godhead must include some feminine aspects, since Genesis 1:26-27 explicitly states that both men and women were created in God’s image.

-Many Christians think and act as if the Holy Spirit doesnt exist or pay little attention to her and therefore this phenomenon is largely implicit.

Similarly The Mother has gone threw the same hardships as women in not being properly appreciated or recognized.

-A feminine Holy Spirit explains the identity of the personified wisdom in Proverbs 8:12-31

    Good grief!
Atheism is the cult of death, the death of hope. The universe is doomed, you are doomed, the only thing that remains is to await your execution...

Therefore, the balance can be rejected without cavil by anyone who considers scripture to be authoritative. Regardless of stories about God having no gender, God self-identifies as male, so it would be kind of impolite to refer to him by any pronoun which would deny him the right to declare his gender.

The Bible says “He” because the Translators choose for their own bias reason to put it as I explained in the post. GOD choose to reveal himself in both masculine and feminine nature and told us to addresses him in both manners. It was the church that decided to conceal the spirits true identity. 1.The pronoun “He” used in reference to the Holy Spirit in the New Testament is a translation, but not necessarily the correct translation;n2.The Greek word for spirit is “pneuma”–a gender neutral word; 3.The Hebrew word for spirit is “ruach”–a feminine word; 4.The Greek pronoun “autos” means “he, she, or it;”n5.Choosing the correct pronoun (he, she, or it) in regards to the word “pneuma” must come from knowing the person we are addressing.

The translators of the Bibles which we all read had all chosen to use “he” or “it,” but never “she.” Even though “she” seemed to be an option

John 15:26 and 16:14 use the pronoun ekeinos (masculine) for the Holy Spirit - the gramatically correct pronoun is ekeino (neuter). In those verses, if nowhere else, the source texts, not the translations, identify the Holy Spirit as masculine.

Hebrew has two grammatical genders: masculine and feminine. Koine Greek has three grammatical genders: masculine, feminine, and neuter. The gender of a word has nothing to do with the gender of the object that the word refers to. Exceptions are in the choice of a name, in which case the grammatical gender of the name must (normally) match the gender of the person. For that reason, Petra became Petros when Peter's name was translated from the masculine Aramaic Kephas to Koine Greek. The use of a masculine pronoun for a neuter noun indicates that the Holy Spirit is a person, not an impersonal power. Had the author(s) of the Gospel of John considered the Holy Spirit to be feminine, they would have used the feminine pronoun.

She has never been an option. In English, "it" is improper when referring to a person.
