Soren Kierkegaard: For Kierkegaard faith is the highest human virtue. Faith is necessary for human fulfillment. It is above reason. Genuine faith is beyond the end of reason. Faith is higher than reason. Faith is the result of human striving. Faith should be the result of a subjective experience. The only way to know God is through such an experience that is extremely subjective and personal.

Apologetics 301 Guidelines
If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you
This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

Is Fideism So Bad?
Atheism is the cult of death, the death of hope. The universe is doomed, you are doomed, the only thing that remains is to await your execution...

I guess that unless he is actively witnessing and trying to convert others he can go through life without anything more than what he has.
And this is coming from someone who thinks apologetics is a necessary part of a good religious education/understanding.

If he has had a specific revelation from the Holy Spirit, then would that fit the definition of "fideism"?"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

Muslims are devout. Hindus are devout. Satanists are devout. The true God seeks worshippers who worship Him in spirit and in truth. Your friend is leaving out the "in truth" part.

God said His people perish for lack of knowledge, so your friend is in active disobedience to not have a reason for the faith that is in him. "The Bible says it" is not a reasonable reason if it is not undergirded by knowledge of why the Bible is the word of God.

No, he is not ignorant. The reason for the hope that is in us is the death and resurrection of Christ. And where did the Apostle argue that the Bible was the Word of God? They just stated that it was...
The apostles were speaking to people who already agreed that the Bible was the word of God as a foundation of their very culture. If your friend "shares the gospel" to people who do not exist within such a culture--and in today's age they likely do not--then his ignorant "the Bible says it" should rightly receive scorn.

And why should we believe it though it is in writing?
