Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

Just to put this in context for readers who don't know the two of us very well...

I was a Christian for 20 years and liked studying academic books about biblical interpretation and theology, and ended up coauthoring such a book.

Mountain Man is a young earth creationist. His bible knowledge seems to be okay, though his interpretations and theology are at the simplistic, basic, and literal end of the spectrum.

A few of the Christians on this site, Mountain Man included, seem to think that if I ever disagree with their own theological views, it must be because I'm an atheist and entirely ignorant of Christianity and the Bible, and can't possibly be because I'm aware of their theological views and other theological views and having thought about the evidence have come to the view that their theological views are not what the Biblical authors meant.

I keep forgetting he's a YEC. The arrogance of his posts in that context is even more stsggering- and it also puts his belligerent ignorance of Covid & vaccines over the last 12 months or so into better context.

I don't know where you keep getting the idea that I'm a young earth creationist since I have never expressed such views. I think there are good arguments for a young universe, and good arguments for an old universe -- I don't lean strongly one way or the other -- but whether the universe has existed for 6000 years or 6 billion years makes no difference to my beliefs about God and the Bible.

As for your knowledge of the Bible and Christianity, you have never posted anything that would lead one to conclude that you have a deep or accurate understanding of the subject. You promote a lot of fringe views that are ahistorical and wildly unorthodox and then wonder why the Christians here look at you askance.

As I noted, you don't appear to be capable of distinguishing between someone not agreeing with your views and someone being ignorant.
