Listening Prayer?

This is VERY closely related (IMO) to my thread I created here:

Which has to do with Discerning God's will in our life and direction. I based my thread (and possible Sunday School teaching series) on a book I am rereading called Decision Making and the Will of God by Garry Friesen.

See Friesen's position makes much more sense - Biblically.

It's the "still small voice" interpretation of 1 Kings 19:12 when communicating with God.

Yes, but that was merely a whisper. As far as I can tell, an actual voice. And not done in the context of a listening prayer.

One of my favorite TV preachers is Charles Stanley, he and other Christians I have respected, often speak of "listening" for God during prayer time. That if you do you will get clear directions. I am never told what this actually looks like, what we are actually to expect. I have been a Christian for 25 years and have never receive direction in this manner (though I have tried). And I'm hard pressed to find scriptures that support this view. Any thoughts?
