Theology 201 Guidelines

This is the forum to discuss the spectrum of views within Christianity on God's foreknowledge and election such as Calvinism, Arminianism, Molinism, Open Theism, Process Theism, Restrictivism, and Inclusivism, Christian Universalism and what these all are about anyway. Who is saved and when is/was their salvation certain? How does God exercise His sovereignty and how powerful is He? Is God timeless and immutable? Does a triune God help better understand God's love for mankind?

While this area is for the discussion of these doctrines within historic Christianity, all theists interested in discussing these areas within the presuppositions of and respect for the Christian framework are welcome to participate here. This is not the area for debate between nontheists and theists, additionally, there may be some topics that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream evangelical doctrine that may be more appropriately placed within Comparative Religions 101 Nontheists seeking only theistic participation only in a manner that does not seek to undermine the faith of others are also welcome - but we ask that Moderator approval be obtained beforehand.

Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 or General Theistics 101 forum without such restrictions. Theists who wish to discuss these issues outside the parameters of orthodox Christian doctrine are invited to Unorthodox Theology 201.

Remember, our forum rules apply here as well. If you haven't read them now would be a good time.

  • What is the Fate of our Sin?

Every time I see Shuny's "What is the Fate of our Sun" thread, I think.....

    our sin....

...not in part, but the whole... is nailed to the Cross and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, Oh, My soul!!!!
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

The fate of our sins is to be separated from us as far as the east is from the west.

          Psalm 103

I always loved it that it used those directions instead of North / South, because we can actually measure that.

A child told me once, when talking about this, "yeah, because we go to Heaven and our sins go to Hell".

I was considering showing the one with west east in the right order, but this is the one where today also meets yesterday; or from your perspective, where today meets tomorrow.

Isaiah 38:17 always makes an impact on me.

                      Behold, for my own welfare I had great bitterness;
But You have kept my soul from the pit of nothingness,
For You have hurled all my sins behind Your back.

I understand that "behind Your back" means "between Your shoulder blades", which of course is a place that no human can see without a mirror. We know that God can do whatever He wishes, so He chooses to not look behind Him to where He has cast our sins.

                        Scripture Verse: Hebrews 8:12

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

I remember my pastor one day quoting Psalm 103:12, "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us." And he asked, "how far is that?" I started to say "twelve thousand four..." Then he interrupted with "It's infinite!"

It seems like this whole sin business began because of the presence of the tree of the fruit of knowledge of good and evil. If God hadn't placed that tree in the Garden, there wouldn't have been any sin. It wouldn't have come into existence.

Why did God put that tree there?
