Theology 201 Guidelines

This is the forum to discuss the spectrum of views within Christianity on God's foreknowledge and election such as Calvinism, Arminianism, Molinism, Open Theism, Process Theism, Restrictivism, and Inclusivism, Christian Universalism and what these all are about anyway. Who is saved and when is/was their salvation certain? How does God exercise His sovereignty and how powerful is He? Is God timeless and immutable? Does a triune God help better understand God's love for mankind?

While this area is for the discussion of these doctrines within historic Christianity, all theists interested in discussing these areas within the presuppositions of and respect for the Christian framework are welcome to participate here. This is not the area for debate between nontheists and theists, additionally, there may be some topics that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream evangelical doctrine that may be more appropriately placed within Comparative Religions 101 Nontheists seeking only theistic participation only in a manner that does not seek to undermine the faith of others are also welcome - but we ask that Moderator approval be obtained beforehand.

Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 or General Theistics 101 forum without such restrictions. Theists who wish to discuss these issues outside the parameters of orthodox Christian doctrine are invited to Unorthodox Theology 201.

Remember, our forum rules apply here as well. If you haven't read them now would be a good time.

Unbelief removed Adam from the Garden, and unbelief prevented Israel from re-entering the Garden.

We should not be like them, who because of unbelief made God swear that they would never enter His Rest.

    Quote

We may return to the same conclusion that we reached before: the sacrifice of animals is inadequate to achieve final cleansing, nor can it cleanse anything more than the copies of heavenly things. Then who will bring the definitive sacrifice? A man must do it. A similar point is made indirectly in Num. 35:33-34: “Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land, and atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it. Do not defile the land where you live and where I dwell, for I, the LORD, dwell among the Israelites.” When a man had shed blood, the man must die. But there is one exception, when the blood of the death of the high priest releases a manslaughterer to return home (Num. 35:25-28). The blood of the high priest has special value. In agreement with this principle, Zech. 3 uses all the symbolism of a defiled human high priest Joshua and then speaks mysteriously of the Branch in connection with which “I will remove the sin of this land in a single day” (Zech. 3:9).

    Do your part, brother. Believe.

And don't keep copying and pasting from watered down commentaries.
Sounds like denying the effectualness of His death/blood !

Your view sounds like a watered down view.

      Here's the full strength explanation.

The blood cleansed the old humanity in Adam to form the New Man in Christ.

Abraham felt uncomfortable, felt like a foreigner in the old humanity, so God promised him a new country, Land, Kingdom, in the New Man in Christ.

However, all the faithful people of God mentioned in Hebrews 11 never received the Land, because the blood hadn't been shed yet:

Heb 11.39And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.

The Land could only be entered by people who had a change of mind, had had a different spirit, turned from serving the world system to serving God, like Joshua and Caleb. But even they did not lead God's People into the real Kingdom:

Heb 4.8For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. 9So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

There remains a rest for even you, brother. All of us have been baptised, have drank from the Rock, witnessed the power of the age to come, but entering rest requires passing a test to see if your faith is real. Abraham and Joshua and Caleb and Israel were all tested. Israel failed to pass the test.

When religionist make faith or repentance or anything else for that matter conditions man must meet in order to get saved or justified before God they are denying that Salvation/Justification is a free gift of Gods Grace. Thats in contradiction to Rom 3:24

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

        Rom 5:16

16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

The free gift is unto Justification !10b

Paul uses the word justify to mean different things. When he said Abraham was justified by believing, it does not mean he went to heaven. It means he was recognised as a member of God's family, entitled to bread from heaven which he received, when he witnessed God's great miracle in rescuing from King Abhimelech and Pharoah. James said Abraham was perfected only when he believed again, when he believed God's command to offer up Isaac.

So Paul uses the word justify to mean believing God, and receiving the Holy Spirit (recognition as family member and being given bread) and justifying and being perfected (sanctified and made ready for entering the Body of Christ):

Gal 3.This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? 3Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? 4Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? 5So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?

Justified towards recognition, then justified towards perfection, completion, fulfillment.

Remember, the Syro-Phoenician woman was refused bread, but her faith justified her! However, she didn't enter the Kingdom, but she received the faith strengthening ministry of the Holy Spirit. If she uses that to strengthen her faith, like Caleb, who did and became born again, became a brave person, God would allow her to enter the Land. You have to be brave, because in the Kingdom, we have to pick up crosses everyday.

Please don't use those useless watered down commentaries. Do what Paul advised the believers in Ephesus in Acts 19: be baptised into the Holy Spirit!

When religionist make faith or repentance or anything else for that matter conditions man must meet in order to get saved or justified before God they are introducing a law principle in Justification. When they present anything as a condition to do to get saved, in which if they dont do it, there is the threat of punishment, but if you do do it there is the promise of reward, eternal life, thats a law principle, the same as under the mosaic law, do and live Lev 18:5

Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the Lord.

They're under the principle of Gal 3:10

10For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.15b

Gal 3.1[a]You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? 2This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of [b]the Law, or by hearing [c]with faith?

Nobody is teaching works are required. It's very clear, hear with faith is what is required. Abraham didn't sacrifice Isaac. He was confident God would give the Lamb.

Joshua didn't fight. God did the fighting.

Have you received the Holy Spirit yet? If not you should find out how it is achieved. You can send me a private message. I will help you.

As it is with Gospel Faith, so it is with Gospel Repentance, its not of man, but the Gift of the Saviour. Jesus told His sent Messengers that Repentance and Remission of sins are to be preached in His Name Lk 24:46-47

46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

That they should be preached in His Name means they are products , effects of His Person and Work, His suffering and death and resurrection.

He was raised from the dead a Prince and a Saviour in order to give repentance and remission of sins Acts 5:31

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

The word give[ didómi ] here means to bestow as a Gift

Its a word that denotes causative results, it means to bring forth, for instance how the word is used here Matt 13:8

8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

                James 5:18

And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

So Christ as a Risen Saviour brings about and effects repentance upon them Hes a Saviour unto, those He suffered and died for, mainly the Elect of God amongst all Nations !

Christ isnt ones Saviour if He doesnt give them Repentance !

Are you taking meds for your mental health? If so, it's not working, because you sound like a stuck record.

I've already showed Israel was given the opportunity to repent, but because of unbelief, could not enter Rest. Only Caleb, had a different spirit, after seeing God saving from hunger and thirst, which the Holy Spirit set up to show God's power, which Caleb saw and remembered, was born again, meta-noia, changed mind, repented.

Numbers 14.2424But because My servant Caleb has a different spirit and has followed Me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he has entered, and his descendants will inherit it.

You should see a doctor soon. After you're fixed, you should try to receive the same Holy Spirit Caleb and Israel received by hearing with faith, to benefit from the Spirit's faith creating ministry.

Then you might hear God's voice to face a test allowing you into Rest.

Now the Israel spoken of in Acts 5:31 to whom their Saviour gives them repentance, its not national physical Israel, but a Spiritual Israel Chosen in Christ, and it includes some Gentiles Acts 11:18

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Israel the Spiritual Seed of Abraham and of Christ has Gentiles in it!

Also the word granted in Acts 11:18 and the word give in Acts 5:31 are the same greek word didōmi.

I can understand by reading post 70 that you don't understand the Bible. Paul says Israel was given the opportunity to repent but was hardened, temporarily, so she rejected it. This same Israel will have the veil removed and will be grafted back.

So one of the characteristics of God given Repentance is that it leads to an acknowledgement of the Truth as it is in Christ Jesus opposed to false doctrines sown by the devil and his servants 2 Tim 2:25-26

                              In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Believing false doctrine and lies is a snare of the devil, only God can deliver us from !

Peradventure means 'perhaps', and 'may' also:

                                In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God perhaps will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

And that they perhaps recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

So God doesn't reprogram a person. He hopes they perhaps will repent, perhaps leave the selfish life.
