Eschatology 201 Guidelines

This area of the forum is primarily for Christian theists to discuss orthodox views of Eschatology. Other theist participation is welcome within that framework, but only within orthodoxy. Posts from nontheists that do not promote atheism or seek to undermine the faith of others will be permitted at the Moderator's discretion - such posters should contact the area moderators before posting.

Without turning this forum into a 'hill of foreskins' (Joshua 5:3), I believe we can still have fun with this 'sensitive' topic.

However, don't be misled, dispensationalism has only partly to do with circumcision issues. So, let's not forget about Innocence, Conscience, Promises, Kingdoms and so on.

End time -isms within orthodox Christianity also discussed here. Clearly unorthodox doctrines, such as those advocating "pantelism/full preterism/Neo-Hymenaeanism" or the denial of any essential of the historic Christian faith are not permitted in this section but can be discussed in Comparative Religions 101 without restriction. Any such threads, as well as any that within the moderator's discretions fall outside mainstream evangelical belief, will be moved to the appropriate area.

  • Where do futurists get seven years

What passage(s) cause futurists to claim that there is a seven-year tribulation period? I see 3.5 years mentioned several times in Revelation, but not seven.

Is it solely from Daniel 9:27? Because I think that is most likely referring to Christ, who was specifically called a "prince" just two verses earlier, who judged the temple "desolate" in Matthew 23:38, and who ended the sacrifices by letting himself be cut off.

Is there anything other than that verse?

I think it is part of Daniel's seventy weeks. Of which 69 passed and one is yet to come. Each "week" is 7 year period.

I'm a futurist. I believe there will be a 3 1/2 year Great Tribulation that will not be suffered by the saints. But that is the latter half of the 70th week of Daniel if I remember right off the top of my head.

Even the Preterists say the events of Revelation are over a 7 year period, but they assume it happened already.

For when Daniel said, “I shall make my covenant for one week,” he indicated seven years; and the one half of the week is for the preaching of the prophets, and for the other half of the week—that is to say, for three years and a half—Antichrist will reign upon the earth. And after this his kingdom and his glory shall be taken away.

I suspect that it is believed the entire 70th week is the Tribulation. But I believe that only 3 1/2 years is the tribulation out of the entire 7 year period. That is, the tribulation was not 7 years but 3 1/2.
