Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

  • FaceGloria - Sinless Facebook from Brazil

I thought this was pretty interesting...

    http://facegloria.com/index.php?r=user/auth/login

Anyone can sign up to Facegloria.com, but if they do, they better mind how they behave.

Swearing is banned – there is a list of about 600 forbidden words – as is any violent or erotic content, or photo or video depictions of homosexual activity.

"We want to be morally and technically better than Facebook. We want all Brazilian Evangelicals to shift to Facegloria," said Mr Barros.

Behind the scenes, more than 20 volunteers patrol online to weed out bad language and to decide whether or not to allow potentially risqué selfies and bikini shots. Even pictures showing tobacco and alcohol get scrutinised for possible removal.

Would mossy be able to say "poop"?

Seriously though I don't think its a bad idea to have something like this.

I'm always still in trouble again

"You're by far the worst poster on TWeb" and "TWeb's biggest liar" --starlight (the guy who says Stalin was a right-winger)
"Overall I would rate the withdrawal from Afghanistan as by far the best thing Biden's done" --Starlight

I think social media is part of why we're in the mess we're in --- maybe social media can help get us back to where we need to be.

The rules seem a bit strict for me based on what was here (600 words on the list? Really?)... but I am of two minds. I don't think Christians should abandon the secular world, and Facebook is a place where lots of discussions happen today. We do need some Christians who are willing to be examples of Christ and perhaps provide a Christian POV in the public forum. On the other hand, I understand that some people just want (or need) away from certain influences, and I can respect that.

Yeah, it's kind of like a "retreat" to a "safe zone", but we still need to be "in the world" but not "of the world".

I don't think 'dirty' words is the reason for, even partially, or a symptom of the moral decay of the world. I've seen forums where Christians and Catholics go to great lengths to avoid saying a word like 'penis' or 'vagina' even though they'd be perfectly sensible words within the subjects. There's a difference between avoiding vulgarity, and simple adopting a prudish attitude.

Heavy moderation always leads to stilted discussions, with risks of turning places into hug-boxes, because smiling and being peppy, and not-negative, is seen as being holy.

I'm reminded of one forum I used to be on that had one member (incidentally, who attended Osteen's church) who would (from a Christian perspective) complain that others were too negative and complain when people mentioned subjects such as death. She dismissed Shakespeare as too negative, and didn't respond when I pointed out the existence of the book of Lamentations.

The mention of 600 curse words reminded me of Tim Hawkins' "Christian Cuss Words" sketch.

Trust me on this Cerealman, don't try thinking too deeply on it.
