Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

  • Obama is Talking the Talk

OK, calm yourself brother. (talking to myself)

Obama is at the National Prayer Breakfast waxing eloquent in his discussion of his Christianity, and his personal acceptance as Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

It just rings so hollow, and his discussion of scripture from the teleprompter seems so scripted.

I'm TRYING "not to judge", but sheeeeeesh!

Last week, I was at a breakfast where our Police Chief and Superintendent of Schools spoke about the need for Christ in our community. I was impressed with their sincerity, and the fact that it didn't sound EVEN A LITTLE bit like they were "working the crowd" or "saying the words". There was most definitely a "kindred spirit", and..... how I wish and hope and pray I could see that at a national level.

I think some of my biggest frustration was when Obama was talking "very sincerely" about religious freedom, and standing against religious oppression, and talked about Pastor Saeed Abedini, being held in Iran, claiming "we will continue to do everything in our power..."

I am also willing to bet he uses his speech to legitimize his politics. something like "The early Christians all shared expenses together and healed one another, just like I am doing with Obamacare!"

I'm quite sure that Obama has made himself deserving of your judgment.

I can't even listen to or look at the man without feeling ill.

And his (and Clinton's) expressions of "my relationship" with Jesus Christ are absolutely false at worst and hypocritical at best.

                  He literally makes me sick.

Good thing I already live where we have universal health care!

I dunno, I'm a little less judgmental of the Clintons being Christians (as I'm REAL familiar with the SBC and Methodist Church, I know lots of nice Methodists who are Christians but REALLY liberal including about 90 percent of my own family. ) As I would be skeptical of the hands in the pockets of Obummer. Something about the way I feel he makes a big show. I dunno, there just seems to be a difference but maybe I was just more naive or more biased of one than the other.

                      There's "liberal", and there's "adultery".

And adultery and denials of such when confronted do not align with the Christian walk.

Yeah, and that he allowed (encouraged?) his cabinet members to trot out before the media declaring his innocence, and their indignation at the "false allegations"....

and then there's all the "Bimbo Eruptions".

Seems like he's taken this to a new level.

                            Source: TheWeek.Com

President Obama's remarks at Thursday's National Prayer Breakfast have ignited yet another firestorm on the right surrounding the president's eyebrow-raising bashing of the West's problematic past. In case you missed it, after criticizing ISIS, the president said: "And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place — remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ."

Obama didn't stop with comparing today's jihadis to Christian sins of 800 to 1,000 years ago. "Slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ," Obama continued.

Both of these historical examples are very true. (Though Obama's comments do obscure the fact that it was Christian abolitionists, such as William Wilberforce, who helped lead the fight against the slave trade.) But they are the wrong parallels for the leader of the free world to draw — or at least, for this leader of the free world to draw.

If Obama really cared about religious freedom he wouldn't have accepted campaign donations from HBO's own theophobe, Bill Maher.

Or wouldn't have made his "bitter clingers" comment.

Just another secular statist where there is only one god, government, and Marx is his prophet.

                              And again:
Why do you do this to yourself?
I turn the TV off or leave the room whenever I see his smug face. Made my life a lot more enjoyable.
