I have been reviewing the response I've received. I appreciate everyone's input as its obvious to me that each was meant for my benefit.

Yet I don't feel I've gotten a good answer to my OP: "What is going on that Christians don't want to help other Christians live a life more devoted to serving God?" Maybe put another way, "When did Christians become reluctant to become deeply involved in other people's, especially fellow Christians, lives?"

It sort of clashes with the "American ideal" of independence. Many people can make it on their own, so they feel that others can too. In a society where more/most people truly struggle to make ends meet, people tend to help each other out more. I suspect further that helping others in your church family isn't a topic that gets much time in the pulpit.

Keep your eyes open for ways you can help others, even if it's minor. If you're doing a menial task which requires no thought, pray while you're at it.
