Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

He also indicated that nothing would be certain until tonight when, I guess, the ruling comes down.
Well, yeah, and getting a judgment does not mean getting a check.

    • The county has settled and will be paying all legal fees, and the church will get to keep the parking spaces that the county was holding hostage for a year!

Waiting for an announcement of this.

Praise God! Now if the government in Alberta would give up and do the same. They've postponed court so many times because they refused to provide their "evidence" for shutting churches down.

      • Here is the statement from the church, just posted. It doesn’t go into detail much, but is praise for how God has worked in the church over the past year.

Join us in thanking the Lord that a settlement agreement has been reached between Los Angeles County and Grace Community Church. The following is a statement from Pastor John:

We are very grateful for our Lord’s protection and providence throughout this past year. Our commitment to the Word of God and His church has never wavered. We have simply continued to stand firm, as we always have and always will. We put our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ who is the head of the church. Over the past year, our congregation has seen His hand of blessing in ways like never before, and the Lord’s promise has been realized: “I will build My church and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.” I am thankful for the advocacy of our attorneys, Jenna Ellis and Charles LiMandri, and this outcome.

        • From one of our GCC Pastors & Elders— Mike Riccardi:

“It’s wonderful to finally be able to officially report that the legal conflict between LA County and Grace Community Church has come to a close.

For attempting to exercise unconstitutional public health mandates, the state of California is ordered to pay $400,000 to Grace Church for compensation for legal fees. LA County is also ordered to pay $400,000 in Grace Church’s legal fees, and that’s on top of the nearly $1,000,000 they paid for their own legal representation. This is good. It should be expensive to attack religious freedoms in violation of the protections afforded by the Constitution.

But it is also worth noting that Grace Church’s decision to defy these unconstitutional public health orders did not become legal today, with the announcement of this decision. This decision was simply the public vindication that our actions have always been consistent with the supreme governing authority of our land, the U.S. Constitution. Though acting in defiance of public health orders, we were never acting illegally.

What this means is, contrary to what has been so often alleged, we were never acting in disobedience to the principles in Scripture which call for submission to governing authorities. Romans 13 cannot and does not bind the consciences of Christians to submit to unlawful governmental orders under the pretense of fidelity to lawfulness. The command to submit to lawful authority cannot and does not bind one to obey a command which that authority has no lawful authority to issue (cf. Matt 22:21). According to God’s great mercy, that principle is enshrined in our Constitution’s disallowing of the State to prohibit the free exercise of religion.

What this also means is, “Romans 13” was never, is not now, and never will be a biblical justification for churches to modify the terms or circumstances of their worship according to the dictates of civil authorities. Christ, not Caesar, is the head of the church. We’re thankful to Jesus Christ, King of all kings, for a decision that vindicates that truth.

          Soli Deo Gloria.

              • The Essential Church is a documentary made by Grace Community Church about what happened to them and to the pastors in Alberta who were imprisoned for keeping their churches open during the pandemic. The film is about more than that. It discusses what the church is to do in order to obey God rather than men

Please do NOT attack MacArthur or Peters because you don't agree with them. Just watch this interview and hear what they have to say.

If you want to see the documentary, you need to contact your local theatre and ask them to show it. About 170 theatres across the US debuted it this past Friday, if those showings sold out, Regal, AMC and Cinemark will provide more locations, at least 1000 theatres. I don't know if those showing were sold out yet.

A large number of churches in the US also showed the film in their services last Sunday. And Melmak told me today that eventually the film will be shown on Grace Stream, which is a free app. I suspect that is how we will see it, as I don't know any churches (maybe James Coates' church and Tim Stephens' church) in my area that are or did show it. James Coates' church is about 2 hours away from us, and Tim Stephens' is about 4 hours away.

Here is Justin Peter's interview of John MacArthur and writer/director Shannon Halliday about the film.

I'm correcting myself here -- it's actually called Grace Media.
