Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

That's incorrect actually. In fact, the very Greek word for "fornication" (a subject they do address) is where we get the word "porn." Not only do they not address "combat" sports, but they don't really even discuss physical violence at all. Jesus is the only one that brings it up and even that's debatable (how he meant it, whom he was addressing, etc.), and certainly a principle, as I said before, none of us follow and thus really gives no one any room to judge without being a hypocrite.

You'd probably exceed TWeb's server capacity listing the items we have today that aren't mentioned in the Bible. Coming immediately to my mind: TV, internet, radio, cars, air travel, Facebook, antibiotics, vaccines, public schools, democracy, Communism (by name). Capitalism (again by name), Machu Picchu, Stalin, Mao, etc. plus, of course, the well known example of the Trinity.

That's why it's left to each believer to figure out how to deal with these things and as a result, in many cases anyways, we will disagree. Since none of these items are close to an essential, we should state our position but not be dogmatic on it which is what you said.

Nice quote-mine. Here' the whole quote...

Antarctica, Australia, North and South America... Calculus, bacteria, and space travel.

The latter reminds me, some mullah/sheik/imam issued a fatwa against Muslims from going to Mars a few years back.

I'm always still in trouble again

Exactly. And Jesus was also very specific about loving one's brother. You're not loving your brother when you try to pound him unto unconsciousness.

Well, there it is. Who hasn't engaged in bitterness, rage, and slander. I guess we're all guilty then, aren't we, hypocrite. It is if that's how you're going to apply that passage.

So your argument is that nobody can condemn sin because we all have sinned? I suppose Paul missed the memo.

Nah, my argument is that you don't even know what you're talking about. Not only are misapplying that passage, but you're not even translating it correctly. Here's a clue: He wasn't talking about physical brawling.

But being how intent you are in using your opinion to cast judgement like the hypocrite you are, I'm probably done with the discussion.

That's fine. You seem overly emotionally invested in this. Perhaps you really don't want to give up your UFC viewing.

And I don't know why you keep calling me a hypocrite. I am not a hypocrite because I do not view combat sports.

It's not that I'm emotionally invested in contact sports, it's that I'm emotionally bothered by someone who can't even interpret the bible correctly enough to back their argument. If you're going to judge from your self-righteous high-horse, the least you can do is learn basic biblical hermeneutics.
