Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

      Interesting.

Meanwhile, I haven't heard any more talk of Texas seceding from the Union lately.

It seems like that today someone could squeak through to victory by a hand full of votes after being forced into a run-off, and they'll still claim they have a mandate.

As far as politics, I'm with you and I think I'm going to back away from it pretty much moving forward, or at least not engage in it as much I've been. I think it's basically over for US conservatives, and I doubt they'll win another major election, not as long as this universal ballot system and system of lawlessness is in place. It's time to move on to more pressing spiritual matters IMO.
Always nice to learn I'm not alone in my thinking. I think the Moral Majority lead Christians into a blind alley regarding politics. While we should be a part of the political process, we can't expect it to bring salvation to the US. I think in general, the church needs to pull back from political advocacy (even if it's of the inferred type). Time to get back to spiritual matters.

Pray like it depends on God (and leave the results to Him)

Maybe we, as a Nation, haven't been judged enough?
This nation hasn't been judged nearly enough. Watch for it to start in the churches as God will take care of His own house before dealing with the rest.

Unfortunately, the "spiritual matters" and the "political advocacy" are sometimes inseparable. Like taking a stand against what's going on in public schools, and voting in people who will be advocates of the parents and students rather than defenders of the system.

I agree. This is the reason we need better discernment of when and how to be involved in political advocacy. I'm not, at least not yet, calling for a withdrawal from the public square. I think we need to rethink the how and when of our political advocacy.

The MSM equates Christian and Republican. I think we need to look back and see why. Yes, there is an argument that the Democratic party kicked Christians out - at least the conservative ones. But do we give the Republican party a pass as a result?

I would have to think more about it but I'm leaning against forming a national Christian political party.

You have made a very good case for why I am an Independent.

Christians (including myself) were/are definitely putting a whole lot of stock in politics to change our circumstances. We've become so comfortable as Christians here in America that that may have detrimental consequences to us in the near future. Maybe this will wake Christians up, snap us out of our optimism bias, come to terms with what's ahead and spiritually and mentally prepare for some tough times. After all, persecution and tribulation are inevitable in our Christians walk, and Jesus made that crystal clear. Politics is not going to save us from that.
