Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

Added to my watch later list. Will listen and comment when I have time.

You know you're in the city when there's a SECOND Baptist Church thereof.
Enter the Church and wash away your sins. For here there is a hospital and not a court of law. Do not be ashamed to enter the Church; be ashamed when you sin, but not when you repent. – St. John Chrysostom

Pfft. In the deep South that's true with towns as well.

You don't even have to go to the deep South for that, even not far from here in Indiana you get those in towns and rather small cities.

I can't speak to that, but my brother lived in Dallas, Georgia (population 14,000) with at least 18 Baptist churches (according to a quick Google map check) where he lived between First, Second and Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (all about a block away)

Well, I have 4 Baptist churches within a mile or two, but no numbered ones - and as far as I know they're all different flavors of Baptist. That's about half of all the churches in that radius (one stop light town). The closest numbered one is my former church, about 8 miles away; I don't know where the nearest "Second Baptist" is - maybe Virginia or DC.

When I served a "Second Baptist" church many years ago, our motto was --- "Second Baptist - where Jesus is FIRST!"

As I promised, I watched the video. Before I watched it, I did have the thought that attacks on Christianity have always happened and will always happen. In one sense, this is nothing new under the sun. I do wonder if Christians have gotten lazy about standing up for their beliefs. Sometimes it seems like the sermons and teachings are "Here's the problem but God will take care of it." Agreed figuring out the right response is hard but somehow, I can't see passivity as the correct response.

"Wokeness" is a really vast term, and I was a little disappointed Dr. Young focused on gender and sexuality issues. What he described is certainly true and certainly not Biblical. Certainly, he is correct to be concerned what this does to the family and to people. Unfortunately for me, he sounds the warning but then doesn't provide direction. That does seem to be a trait I see in today's sermon. State the problem or issue or Biblical teaching but then don't provide guidance on what to do.

Definitely worth listening to. Thanks for sharing.

About the same time, you posted the video, this article by Rod Dreher came in. Has a lot of the same points as Dr. Young and the same defect of not providing a solution. Maybe we can work that out.

Interesting - thanks for taking the time (which I do not have right now). I'll be back.

One other thought I had and forgot to include.

Dr. Young touched on this very briefly. I think he doesn't state how woke is my way or else belief system. I think woke will try to convert people over and then try to destroy what won't come over to their side. This would include churches trying to hold on to more traditional beliefs.

In the future, you'll probably be able to have Christian "beliefs" as long as you compromise your beliefs with what society holds to. If woke takes a deeper hold on society, you better be prepared to have an uncomfortable existence if you hold to more traditional beliefs.
