Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

From a link in the OP article we find that the self identification nonsense has taken a more ridiculous turn:

Melbourne school affirms teen girl who identifies as cat
    • Year eight student at a Melbourne private school reportedly identifies as a cat
    • The girl is 'phenomenally bright' but is non-verbal at school, which supports her
    • There have been other reports of students identifying as cats in Brisbane
    • The trend of adopting a 'furry' animal identity is a well-established sub-culture
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...rry-trend.html

This isn't a little kid either. They said she is in 8th grade, which is old enough to be past the playing make-believe stage.

So what is the difference between Christians attending sci-fi conventions doing cosplay as aliens or star trek characters and dressing up as furries? Are all furries linked to expressing sexual fetishes or are some just doing cosplay with no sexual connotations?

Playing make-believe, maybe. I remember the kid in my 8th grade class who never dropped the act that he was actually an undercover FBI agent investigating the school.

And this, given the enabling available in society, sounds more like she's a bit nuts -- deluded.

I'm always still in trouble again

She would be around 13 or 14 years old. A bit old for make-believe, but maybe has some mental issues.

The problem is that this is the way things are headed. If you can self identify as whatever of 57 genders you want to be, why not what species you want to be.

Of course I would then argue if you don't claim to be human, then you forfeit all human rights and can be treated like an animal. Bet they wouldn't like that.

? This kind of nonsense making the news dates back no less than eight years.

She could be 12, more likely 13.

Toss them in cages. When they complain say "Show me where it is illegal to put a cat (or dragon) in a cage?"

Some have the sexual aspect, but some just like stuff like Looney Tunes characters. However the latter often distances themselves from the former, or even refuses to use the "furry" label. Among some of the former it is as mild as liking say some of the anime cat girls* while everything else about them looks human, while others are much closer to bestiality.

*This picture is an example of something that is pretty popular, and when not taken very far is something most consider rather harmless. It's probably one of the least out there versions of what is considered to be "furry bait".

Yeah. Like I know that Nick likes the My Little Pony show and claims to be a Brony. He just likes the show. But there are "bronies" and other MLP fans that basically blend into sexual connotations and furries.

I believe I posted pictures of that awhile back.

Yup, and the weird ones give all of the other fans of the show a bad reputation. Probably because they are not just weird, but they are blatantly obnoxious with their weird stuff and show it to everyone. Was on the Steam forums looking for info on a bug for a game I had, and came across someone who had a profile pic of one of the MLP characters, but given enormous boobs.

I don't expect any better from the Babylon Bee, but this article just assumes that it is inherently immoral to dress up like animals and goes from there. How is it any different from cosplay or Society for Creative Anachronism? Or for that matter, dressing up for Halloween or being in a play? (I think it's profoundly stupid and would never do it, but I don't have any basis for proclaiming it immoral.)

That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill
