  • The Messiah, whose son is he?

    Matthew 22:

"41 While the Pharisees were together, Jesus questioned them, 42 “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose Son is He?”

    “David’s,” they told Him.

43 He asked them, “How is it then that David, inspired by the Spirit,[q] calls Him ‘Lord’:

44 The Lord declared to my Lord,
    ‘Sit at My right hand
until I put Your enemies under Your feet’?[r][s]

45 “If David calls Him ‘Lord,’ how then can the Messiah be his Son?” 46 No one was able to answer Him at all,[t] and from that day no one dared to question Him anymore."

Why did David call the Messiah, Lord? "Lord" in what sense?

    Thank you.

I would think "Lord" would mean David was the Messiah-King's servant. Thus the conundrum!

The Lord said unto my Lord] Ps. 110:1. According to the Hebrew, “Jehovah said to Adoni,” i. e. to my sovereign Lord, the Messiah, the Son of David.

"What I pray of you is, to keep your eye upon Him, for that is everything. Do you say, 'How am I to keep my eye on Him?' I reply, keep your eye off everything else, and you will soon see Him. All depends on the eye of faith being kept on Him. How simple it is!" (J.B. Stoney)

So, you believe Jesus is saying that the Messiah would be greater than David because he is the Messiah. You don't believe Jesus is saying the Messiah would be David's God?

        And because he is Lord.

I do believe that! See the quote from the commentary above.
