In my investigation into exegesis, I've read through a good portion of Biblical Interpretation by William W. Klein and Craig L. Blomberg

I have not quite gotten a handle on the principles behind OT exegesis. I don't understand how the exegetes approach the topics of prophecy and fulfillment.

So far it seems that the goal of OT exegesis is to find the ideas which the original audience would comprehend. And then the modern day exegetes are supposedly to be focused on the wisdom gleaned for today based on what the original audience would comprehend. However, I think the texts were more focused as a warning to later generations... points given in light of the contemporaneous problems of the Hebrew people.

The OT interpretation is still something on the back burner. But I am curious what people here have to say about the goals and essence of OT exegesis are.
