Used to be, you couldn't go into a decent bookstore without running into dozens of games. Now it seems to just be a few old standbys and 5e. Any suggestions for new games?

Do you have anything like a Hobbytown USA?

There is one in the same shopping center as one of my favorite restaurants and I've gone in to browse a couple times. They had several long shelves of board games there. It was where I got Betrayal at House on the Hill (cue scary music), and a buddy later got the expansion Widow's Walk.

A friend of mine has both of those and we've played a few times. They are fun.

          I'm wondering about rpg's though.

Well, I always recommend my go-to: Savage Worlds (current version is Adventure Edition, aka SWADE). It's great for pretty much anything, ESPECIALLY if you want some Pulpy Adventure. Fair warning: The Dice will Explode at the most inopportune time, to the point where it's called, "Savage Worlds Happens," by the community at large.

              I've also played the following:

Mecha RPG: Good for anything Mecha-related you want to play, though I'd tweak a few things.

Cortex Prime: New edition of a system called Cortex, the last iteration (Cortex+) was used for an insane amount of Licensed Products (Marvel Heroic Roleplaying, Firefly, Leverage, Smallville). Fairly Rules-Light, though the various optional rules and modifications can and will overwhelm a new GM.

Mutants and Masterminds: d20 system that uses a Point-Buy System for more traditional Superheroic stuff. Fair warning: It's INCREDIBLY easy to Min-Max to the point where your GM has to unleash Cthulhu in Power Armor every other session just to keep things challenging.

Isn't Savage Worlds similar to Champions? I think Vengeance, Inc was part of Savage Worlds - I'll have to check it out again.

M&M reminds me of the original Marvel Superheroes - it was so bad that literally any character did more damage charging at things than using their normal attacks!

I'll check out the others as well - thanks!

Have you tried DragonRaid? I tried it once many years ago with mossy, Mr. mossy and my sister but we never finished the first story and ended up giving it away. It's the only tabletop RPG I've ever played, but I thought it was an interesting allegory.

Never played Champions, but Savage Worlds is the Great-Grandson of a system in the 90's called Deadlands: The Weird West.

                      Deadlands Original.jpg

Character creation involved dealing playing cards and consulting a table for your Attributes, using different colored Poker Chips to help with Rolls, and your Dice could 'explode' (If they rolled the highest result like an 8 on a d8, you re-rolled and added it to the total to infinity and beyond)

M&M reminds me of the original Marvel Superheroes - it was so bad that literally any character did more damage charging at things than using their normal attacks!
Yeah, Charging someone- unless you take certain powers- is a VERY stupid idea in Mutants and Masterminds. Of course, in Mutants and Masterminds there's a bajillion different ways to take somebody down... so charging in like a dummy is not the wisest course of action to begin with.

I'll check out the others as well - thanks!
                      Always happy to help!

This reminds me of a story... during an evening I was absent, one of my regular players ran a Gamma World One-Shot for folks, and one of them started the adventure with a nuclear grenade. He was dumb enough to use said grenade. No more One Shot.

Was his name Idi "V.D." Amin by chance? He claimed that Israeli commandos used nuclear hand grenades during the Raid on Entebbe to rescue the passengers of a plane highjacked by Palestinian terrorists in the 70s.

As an aside, a friend of mine, now deceased, met him and his entourage in Riyadh. Old "V.D." was so pleased that he recognized him and that he rattled off several of his "titles" that he gave him a box of his cigars.

                            I don't think so, no.

That's pretty awesome, not gonna lie. Especially considering the price of cigars these days.

This would have been back shortly after he took a self-imposed exile in Saudi Arabia.
