Meanwhile here's the bird's mouth cut and the back cut slightly higher than the bird's mouth cut. (You're looking at this part of the tree upside down)

And, believe me, there was plenty of moisture inside the trunk - the branches and leaves were dead, but the tree hadn't been dead for long.

Yeah, "ye Mighty Tree" was about 25' tall, and maybe a foot or more in diameter. But it fought a good fight - due to the moisture content. The "sawdust" wasn't dust at all.

Boy scouts run concurrent with the school year. That means camping in the winter. If it is lower than 70, that is too cold to camp.

I guess neither of you ever owned a good sleeping bag. I turn the heat down at night during the Winter because I love sleeping when its cold under warm blankets. I would turn it down even further but after having my pipes freeze twice two years ago I don't go below 48.

Actually, I do. And I love cold nights, but not the "freezing my butt off" part - which is WHY I have good sleeping bags.

Meh. One Thanksgiving, we camped out at 20 below. As a concession to the cold, we set up our tents in an unheated building.
