He said the students were all nuts. He didn't say the field was invalidated(although I believe he has given reasons for not trusting the field now), and he didn't even say that all the students stayed that way.

I'll never forget how many times and how strongly my sociology professor in college (some 40 years ago) insisted that sociology was science. I mean - it's like he had a fixation about it.

Years ago I remember being taught (some 35 years ago) that there were five^[1] "sciences" that were more art than science (get half a dozen experts in the field in a room, ask them a question and prepare for six completely different, often contradictory answers). They are:

• Sociology

• Psychiatry

• Psychology

• Political Science

• Economics

That reminds me of the attitude that was expressed by the father of nuclear physics, Ernest Rutherford, who is quoted as saying that "All science is either physics or stamp collecting." That contemptuous remark did nothing to win friends for physics among practitioners of other sciences but nevertheless accurately illustrated the scornful position that many physicists had for other scientists back in the early 20th century.

Another example of this is a quip cited by some physicists that all biologists would rather be physicists, but became biologists only because they were not very good at math (biologists responded that physicists would rather have been biologists but aren't because they're unable to keep anything alive long enough to study it).
