  • Figgy Pudding

Have you ever had any? Do you even know what it is?

I suspect it is similar to plum pudding. Have had that, many times.

My Mom made it every year, then decided she liked carrot pudding better. Similar to plum (and probably figgy) but uses grated carrot as one of the ingredients. It's wonderful. I have the recipe if anybody wants it.

    Bring it on!

I was right, a steamed dessert, and that looks like the traditional doused with boize and set afire for presentation.

          From our Friends at Wikid-peedia....
Figgy pudding is a pudding resembling a paler coloured Christmas pudding containing figs. The pudding may be baked, steamed in the oven, boiled or fried.[1]

Figgy pudding dates back to 16th century England.[2] Its possible ancestors include savory puddings such as crustades, fygeye or figge (a potage of mashed figs thickened with bread), creme boiled (a kind of stirred custard), and sippets. In any case, its methods and ingredients appear in diverse older recipes. Today, the term figgy pudding is popularized mainly by the Christmas carol "We Wish You A Merry Christmas," which includes the line, "Now bring us some figgy pudding" in the chorus.

I always thought it was "piggy pudding" --- code word for bacon.

If it has figs it can't be bad.

My fig tree finally produced some decent fruit that the birds didn't get to first. I'm gaining a new appreciation for fresh figs.

I have never had fresh figs.

Only dry ones, and they are horribly sweet.

Fresh figs taste nothing like the dried ones. I don't like the dried ones either.
