I think I went a few months without getting any REM sleep. This was about the time when I started drinking coffee on a regular basis. I just cut the coffee yesterday and finally got some REM sleep again, after literal months. So yeah, coffee almost killed me.

I would say that whether drinking coffee is good or not depends on what time of day it is, at least with me. If I have some in the morning (and it happens to be strong enough), it'll keep me from wanting to fall asleep that afternoon. But if I have it in the afternoon, I won't want to sleep that night. So it's like a double-edged sword in a way.

Is coffee worse than cola? I was replacing my morning cola with coffee on the idea that too much coke was bad for me

Depends on how much sugar you use in your coffee I suspect.

I don't drink coffee. For some reason I get sick after awhile. So I tend to stay clear of coffee.

There are apparently genes (I forget how many have been identified - there was a number in the OP attachment) that impact how coffee impacts different individuals. I wonder if there may be a genetic basis for liking or disliking the flavor as there is with broccoli.
