    lol. Like I said, they live many hours away. Some 9 hours to be exact, which isn't forever away, but no mall close by. There's an Indian casino close by, but don't think that would work out so well.

      Which is exactly why I dug it in my 20s. Yeah...probably wouldn't be great reading material for an 11 year old. I have been slowly indoctrinating both of my nieces into the weird though. Got them watching Labyrinth, The Last Unicorn, the first two Hobbit films, Tim Burton's Batman, The Avengers, the original Star Wars trilogy, and the first half of Raiders of the Lost Ark (they had to go to bed before we could finish that one). Also been trying to get them into Marvel superheros. They like Spider-Man (my favorite), but are especially interested in Marvel's Squirrel Girl, and DC's Teen Titans cartoon for some reason (they didn't get that from me). Been meaning to have them watch the Dark Crystal, but figured that'd scar them pretty badly. It did a 7 year old me, but kids today seem a whole heck of a lot more resilient to watching/reading weird stuff.

        In which case imposing your fashion sense in a tween girl might not be a good idea after all.
        Don't call it a comeback. It's a riposte.

          You may be right about that. I can promise you that she doesn't have a mohawk...yet.

            Something outdoorsy, since she lives in a rural area (?) - snowshoes, a tent, a hammock, a camp cooking set, an embalming kit*....

            A science kit or a weather station if she's into discovering stuff.

            Outdoor games stuff -a badminton set, petanque, croquet (if they have a flat lawn), frisbees or nerf throwing things, an axe or a knife (to take down zombies)**

            TL;DR

            You sound like an awesome uncle***, and I think anything you get will be received with the love you sent it with.

            * that was a joke

            ** so was that - but then again...

            ***Could you be my uncle, too? I currently have an opening for someone willing to spoil me with thoughtful gifts...
            ...>>> Witty remark or snarky quote of another poster goes here <<<...

              Haha. I think I'm all tapped out in the uncle department. All of your ideas are great, and in particular the badminton set which is something she loved playing last time they were down here visiting us. That zombie skullsplitter is sweat though. Might have to get that for myself should the zombie outbreak happen.
