    • I'll be staying away from that intersection, thank you...

      • Now I'm curious to see what it means to "eddy".

Rummaging through possibilities on Google translate: the most likely source word seems to be 旋轉 - Chinese: XuŠnzhuǎn - schen jwan (in Japanese it is "senten") - spin, whirl, rotate, swirl.
Some part of the wand probably spins.

And an eddy indeed is a whirlpool, as a noun, and as a verb it is to move in a circular way!

Yes - it is often simply a matter of rummaging through synonyms to find a probable right word.

One of my favourites, encountered on occasion with Japanese even reasonably proficient in English: "this (or that) is very."
Happily, the trace was easy but via Japanese. very - taihen - extreme.

It that sort of questioning that explain why you no have raccoon on head. You never get to enjoy that kind of moment.

While never having a raccoon on my head (aside from a "coonskin cap" back when Davy Crockett and Dan'l Boone were popular), I have had a champagne or cream-colored skunk on my head before. Best scalp massage I ever had.

Pfft. I’ve had cats do the same thing. And they smell better.
