"Before the anniversary, the manager learned that he was about to be transferred, and during the dinner he gave his farewell address."

At what dinner did the manager give his farewell address?
    His anniversary dinner.

OK - so what is your answer to the actual question?

Seeing as how you have made the connection public, John 13:1-2 being the referent point, the thread is now open for discussion (a few hours earlier than I had planned on.)

From what I understand of SATs, pretty much the same process.

Restricting answers to what is available from the text is entirely in order.

My reasoning is that although the guy found out before the company's anniversary that he was getting transferred, his actual transfer may not have been scheduled to happen until after the company's anniversary, so the anniversary dinner would have been the only opportunity he had to give a farewell address. If any of that made sense.

You created a back story? That's something I didn't think of.

Of course NorrinRadd did correctly assess the Biblical connection, so it would interesting to find out from him what gave the game away. And Faber also gave an interesting reply. I thought about reworking the scenario to prevent it, but on balance, it's probably better leave the loop hole in place.

I'm also wondering it the 80% return rate (in the ball park) would hold in further polls elsewhere.

I would say the anniversary dinner, otherwise there's no reason to even mention the anniversary. The fact that the discovery of the transfer took place before the anniversary would be irrelevant if the farewell speech took place at a farewell dinner, rather than the anniversary dinner.

Thank you and every one else who responded.

The question that arises from these responses is; how is it that the parties to majority consensus with regard to John 13:1-2 don't assess the pericope properly?
