I love bargaining, haggling, dealing....
Sometimes, the person who you're dealing with (car salesman, doctor, investment broker) gives you "options" - several different possibilities.
About 10 or 15 years ago, I heard a Jewish friend say "I always ask 'what would you tell your own mother'", and I've adopted that strategy.
Interestingly enough, there are a number of people who still have a soft spot for mom, and are decent enough to be honest, that I'll often see a change of facial expression or posture, as they respond, "well, in that case...."
It really has served me well. Most recently when I asked my doctor about getting the vaccine, when I had Covid in January with pretty much ZERO impact (so far).
She gave me a list of options, then I asked her "what would you tell your mother".
She responded, "well, under the same circumstances, with her having your medical history, I think I'd tell her to wait a few weeks". She went on to explain that she was actively perusing some information on the vaccine options with regard to persons who have already have had Covid, and what the potential "immunity" would be without the vaccine.....
So, I'm waiting. That's what she would tell her mom.
ETA: DO NOT turn this thread into a VaxOrNot --- that was only an example -- I'll follow my own doctor's advice.
