  • North America runs out of IPv4 addresses

I have no idea whether this is any cause for concern or not...

    http://fortune.com/2015/09/24/we-are...pv4-addresses/

Mossy and I have been used to our modem/router acting up occasionally in the past, and after rebooting it we'd end up with a different WAN IP address. If that happens again, would we be unable to acquire a new address as before? I don't even understand how IPv6 works -- though if I remember right our current modem/router supports it.

Again, do I need to be concerned?

      Short Answer: No,

Long Answer. Not really. Most ISP's have a bunch of surplus IP's (IPv4) that they can continue to hand out. However, any new allocations of IP's are not going to be permitted. IPv6 is the thing most ISP's will transition to when they are out of IPv4 addressees.

        Yeah

It's like when Johnny Carson announced a toilet paper shortage in California (there wasn't) and he actually created one by saying that.

Most ISPs hoarded IP addresses because of the fear that they would run out. And most ISPs are smart enough to know that their less tech savvy customers may not be prepared for IPv6 addresses.

So when we get to v8 do we have to drink the vegetable juice?

I blame the spambots for hogging all the IPv4 addresses. Stupid spambots.

No, you get bigger fines for producing more carbon.
