  • System Mechanic Firewall?

I have to use someone's computer. Long story short, I don't see any firewall program but System Mechanic 10 is present but needs renewal. Near as I can tell, this uses Windows firewall? I can't tell from the program description.

As I recall, windows Vista and above has a security program, that will tell you security problems. On Windows 7 SP1, it's under the control panel/review system status/security tab and it should tell you the security status (IE if windows firewall is running).

Yeah, this has Win 7. I want to be sure, though that it's sufficient. I understand Windows firewall wasn't considered strong on two way data protection. But I've been out for the loop for a while.

System Mechanic is garbage. Look elsewhere.

Unfortunately, this isn't my puter. I have to use it for the person's important (read: private) stuff I don't want on mine.

Out of curiosity. ..why is it garbage? The laptop looks fantastic compared to my admittedly ancient Toshiba

Here is a site that I like to check for reviews:

This review is on an even newer version of SM.

PPfftttt....so I'm better off just using Win 7 firewall alone. *trying to decide what free Antivirus program I can get away with*

I generally use Windows Firewall on my stuff (running Win8.1)

But if you want a serious one then there is always Comodo.......but it can take a LOT of config.

Yeah I use windows firewall too. But then I am careful about what sites I visit, what programs I install and run, and don't open attachments. Never had a virus or anything.
