      Yes, it's free. Haven't played it myself and have no intention to start anytime soon.

            From what I hear, you can basically rule an entire empire of Dwarves only to have the entire thing go up in flames because a Dwarf miner opens up a whole to some underground reservoir and floods the entire place.

                Eh, no. Actually the dangers from underground usually come from either Forgotten Beasts (ungodly, four story tall creatures, that can do things like breath fire, spit acid, blow toxic dust, suck blood, ect.) or actually digging into Hell itself, after which, an army of about thirty to fourty demons attempt to overrun your fortress.

                        Ah. I tried Dwarfs!, but as you said, it's not very good. Not enough control over what they do, and they do stupid things while you are trying to do other stuff.
