    Wow

I'm normally a "show must go on" kind of guy, but, yeah, they needed to stop that game.

That's the other thing of course...stopping the game. When Ron Cey had to be taken out after being beaned with a pitch the game went on. When Scoisco was laid out cold after the collision at the plate, game went on.

On the one hand, it wasn't an official game so to speak. On the other hand, they are professionals. Sign of the times?

Come to think of it, when that pitcher had his ankle broke by the runner landing hard on it last year, the game went on.

Eh... I think it was a cooperative thing between the two teams.... baseball is played with heart --- kinda hard to continue a game like that, but, maybe I'm just getting soft in my old age.

I think this one looked too much like possible permanent brain damage -- as fast as the ball is thrown, and coming right back in a line drive to the noggin.... I think they were erring on the side of caution.

I kinda feel sorry for the hitter, too...

Yeah, and I think that's a big part of the picture --- how could he go on playing knowing he might have caused blindness / death / who knows?

Very good points. Another article says there was discussion among the two couches and I think the head ump...they may have reached the same conclusions.

There is also the fact that this is Spring Training where the outcome of the game doesn't count.

I'm always still in trouble again

Chapman will have a plate inserted in his skull and is expected to be back in at least a month.

Here's a link discussing the perspective of the players and the decision to stop the game:
