Have the Oscars committed suicide?

Favorite movies depends on my mood.

I tend to like Action, SciFi, Horror & Drama.

That isn't to say I don't like Comedy, but nowadays it seems that straight out comedies just aren't that funny -- or too rarely are so. Movies with comedic overtones suit me better these days. Then again, I also have a strong dark streak in my sense of humor.

When I say horror, I am not talking about slasher flicks, torture porn and other such drek. I just like a good old fashioned scary movie. Just finished watching a pretty good one I hadn't heard of called Heritage.

Heritage was great. Good choice for horror.

SciFi can really stretch across the range from fantasy to hard core Science Fiction. Just do it right -- or shlocky. But really, one -- MAYBE two -- Sharknados was definitely enough.

Action should either be done right or, like SciFi, done in a campy way, and be fun to watch.

Dredd 2012 would be up your alley if you haven’t seen it.

And with drama -- just don't turn into a soap opera. Too many of those in movies and TV shows. That isn't to say that there aren't any good what get called "chick flicks" but not many are my cup of tea.

My wife made me watch Kate and Leopoldo once. That’s a good one that stands out.

A final note, despite being old enough to get discounts, I still love me my cartoons. Anime and western. Not a fan of the childish and silly (predominant in cartoons here now), or yet another ridiculous young teen angst drama in any imaginable setting and environment (I'm looking at you anime).

Btw, Ghandi was a good movie -- just too long. Yet, if right now if I were to be asked which would I rather watch, I'd pick Tootsie 9 out of 10 times

Tootsie hits on all levels. Off the top of my head, my three fav go-to 80s movies besides Tootsie are Broadcast News, Moonstruck, and Crimes and Misdemeanors. C and M is a masterpiece and by far Woody Allen’s best. What did you think?

Honestly, the original Judge Dredd movie with Stallone was a "funner" movie to watch.

I don't get Amazon, Hulu or Netflix.

Broadcast News was great. Wasn't a fan of Moonstruck. I have to be in the mood for a Woody Allen movie, and while C&M is regarded as among his best, if not best film, I'll always have a soft spot for Zelig.

When you look at the world through racist glasses, everything is racist.

As a white person, I was not "outraged" by Smith's actions. Just kind of shocked that it happened. As I think most people were. I agree it was wrong but then so does nearly everyone else. I would think the exact same thing if both of them were white, or one was white and the other black.

My biggest take-away is that our culture has become so depraved that Smith thinks it is fine for other men to sleep with his wife, but gets offended if they make a joke about her hair. And again, that has nothing to do with color.

IIRC, this was the first all-black production team at the Oscars and the producer was willing to have LAPD arrest Smith on the spot if Rock gave the go ahead. And one of the co-hosts, Wanda Sykes, said that the attack "sickened" her and thought Smith should have been removed from the building rather than allowed to accept his award, saying it sent the wrong message. .
