  • Favorite classical music piece?

For me, probably Holst's "Jupiter" from _The Planets_.

    Picture is semi-relevant.

This is a totally unoriginal answer, but the 1812 Overture. Holst's Planets is possibly my favorite suite, though.
"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

I like the 1812 overture too. However also on my list are Toccata and Fugue in D minor Finlandia, Peer Gynt and Pictures at an Exhibition.

        Nessun dorma from Puccini's Turandot

Weber & Rice copied it in each of their scores.

Nessun Dorma is lovely but try growing up having it sung daily at night while trying to sleep....

If it kept you from sleeping, that's very much in accord with the opera.

1812 is lovely. Nessun Dorma ... I don't know it, at least not by name. For Bach, the Little Fugue (if I have to only pick one).

The picture leaves off half the punch line.

It's tough for me to pick a favorite classical music piece. Perhaps J. S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor." I also love Gerschwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

Only a third--but at that scale, the string wouldn't show.

So pick one not listed! I'm actually using this thread to look for new stuff, or for stuff I haven't heard in a while.

                        1812 is my all-time favourite.

I like The Golden Cockerel by Rimsky-Korsakov. Also his Russian Easter Overture, and Scheherazade.

Also, just about anything arranged by Ralph Vaughn Williams.

                        Happy now?

Nessun Dorma, Is also well overplayed. Here is the you tube link with Mario Lanza (considering that the "three tenors is too overplayed"

Being the Classical Music buff that I am, am I ever loaded with favorites.

But when I feeling particularly and subtly sinister, this is one of my tunes (And amazed to see that One Bad Pig appreciates this tune amongst his favorites Bravo to you good sir).
