  • Pro-life teen defiant after alleged attack by feminist professor

A teenage pro-life demonstrator who claims she was assaulted by a feminist studies professor at the University of California in Santa Barbara during a campus event this month told FoxNews.com she is more determined than ever to protest against abortion.

Thrin Short, 16, and her sister Joan, 21, had handed out nearly 1,000 informational pamphlets during a March 4 outreach event organized by the Riverside-based nonprofit Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust before things took an unexpected turn. Associate Professor Mireille Miller-Young approached the demonstrators and a group of students who had gathered and she became incensed, according to Thrin Short, eventually snatching a sign the girl was holding and walking off with it.

“Before she grabbed the sign, she was mocking me and talking over me in front of the students, saying that she was twice as old as me and had three degrees, so they should listen to her and not me,” Thrin Short wrote in an email to FoxNews.com. “Then she started the chant with the students about ‘tear down the sign.’ When that died out, she grabbed the sign.”

With the graphic anti-abortion sign in hand, Miller-Young, whose faculty web page says she specializes in black cultural studies and pornography, then allegedly walked through two campus buildings as Short, her sister and two UCSB students followed closely behind. Short captured much of the incident, which she charged was a "deliberate" provocation by Miller-Young, on a cellphone video later posted to YouTube while her sister called campus police. Miller-Young pushed Short at least three times, the student alleges, as she tried to stop an elevator door from closing as the educator stood inside with her sign, Short said.

“I explained how I had been trying to keep the elevator door open with my foot, because I thought the police would be there any second, and that’s when she pushed and grabbed me,” Short’s email continued. “She then got off the elevator and tried to pull me away from the elevator doors so the others could get away with the sign.”

Short said she suffered minor injuries during the melee — scratches on both wrists — and said campus police are now reviewing the video.

Miller-Young declined to comment when reached by FoxNews.com, referring inquiries to her attorney, Catherine Swysen, who did not return a message seeking comment Wednesday.

Several messages seeking comment from UCSB police spokesman Sgt. Rob Romero were also not returned, but school officials acknowledged the incident in a statement.

“The university is aware of the incident and it is being reviewed by the appropriate offices,” spokesman George Foulsham wrote to FoxNews.com. “It is university policy not to discuss personnel matters.”

Kristina Garza, director of campus outreach for the nonprofit pro-life group, said Miller-Young initially tried to lead a small group of students to protest the anti-abortion advocates before simply grabbing Short’s sign herself.

“We recognize the irony of the incident,” Garza told FoxNews.com. “The professor is a feminist studies professor and her specialty is pornography, and she did commit an act of violence against another woman. So, the irony there to us is rather great.”

The event took place on the public university's so-called “free speech zone,” Garza said, adding that she was shocked by the level of anger shown by Miller-Young.

“This is one of the most extreme cases of lashing out in anger I’ve ever seen,” she said. “We’ve never seen a professor act so violently toward one of our missionaries or trainees.”

Thrin Short, who wants to see Miller-Young prosecuted for the alleged assault, said she won’t let it keep her from future pro-life events, particularly on college campuses.

“If she isn’t prosecuted, wouldn’t anyone else think they could do the same thing and get away with it? The assault on me was part of the whole package of her deciding that she was above the law and could do whatever she liked to us,” Short’s email continued. “ … Fortunately, in our country, we can speak out against abortion and other evils, and the law protects us. It would be cowardly to back off just because of what this one person did.”

Imagine the swift and decisive reaction from the university if the situation had been reversed with a professor grabbing a pro-abortion sign and assaulting its holder. Can we say blatantly hypocritical double standard?

That would be assuming that there was any professor at said university of that political persuasion to begin with.
            Don't call it a comeback. It's a riposte.

This happened on March 4th and the University is still 'reviewing' it? Bull - they're hoping the thing will go away.

Brent Bozell and Tim Graham just published a column on this:

Source: The Pornified Professor vs. Pro-Life Youth

The other day this story hit the New Media. It’s on the Old Media will simply never report.

Two sisters, 16 and 21 and members of Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, were holding a pro-life sign while demonstrating at the University of California-Santa Barbara. A choppy cell phone video caught the scene: students hurl obscenities at the young girls while a large, imposing woman, with two accomplices in tow, march off with the sign, having ripped it from one girl’s hands.

The girls follow the thugs to the elevator, and as the video continues recording, the intimidating woman sneers at the girls, taunts them, and dares them to try retrieving the stolen sign while her accomplices laugh.

The woman who helped steal the sign in question and is now facing assault charges is Dr. Mireille Miller-Young, an Associate Professor of Feminist Studies at UCSB. If two young ladies were protesting for abortion rights at Ave Maria University and some pro-life goons led by a professor there assaulted them, on video, it would be replayed on every news network in America. But in this case the thugs were pro-abortion so the news, as usual, was no news -- censored.

But there’s another story within this one. Who is this professor?

As we reviewed some online reports, two things struck us. One outlet wrote that Miller-Young “specializes in queer theory, black film and pornography.” Ouch. So much for rules of proper journalism, we thought. Later in that article, a spokeswoman for Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust is quoted as having told Fox News, “The professor is a feminist studies professor and her specialty is pornography…”

Yikes again. How hyperbole hurts your cause, pro-lifers! Best check this out for ourselves, we concluded. So we pulled up her UCSB’s official website. There is no exaggeration in what we’d read. This is what we learned:

“Mireille Miller-Young: Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Feminist Studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Her research explores race, gender and sexuality in visual culture and sex industries in the United States. Her manuscript, A Taste for Brown Sugar: Black Women, Sex Work and Pornography examines African American women’s representation and labor in pornographic media.”

We learn she has published research in book collections such as “Pornification: Sex and Sexuality in Media Culture, Blackness and Sexualities.” That one seems self-explanatory. But what is “C’Lick Me: A Netporn Studies Reader,” another outlet in which she has proudly published her work?

It comes out of Amsterdam (surprise) and proclaims, “We are part of a porn-friendly, yet critical digital generation, bothered by a cultural climate of narrow-mindedness and porn hysteria … to expand the notion of digital desire, and smash the predictable boundaries of porn debates, depicting a broader libidinal spectrum from fetish subcultures to digital alienation [whatever that means]…The reader concludes by re-contextualising the queer discourse into a post-porn scenario [whatever that means again].”

Her bio declares she has written essays for The New York Times, Feminist Theory… and $pread, a sex worker magazine, which boasts: “We are current and former strippers, escorts, pro-dommes, phone sex and fetish workers, and porn stars of all genders.” We are told she has been interviewed for books, article and radio programs. Only one is listed: NPR (surprise).

But shouldn’t there be more media interest than that? Shouldn’t someone somewhere be curious enough to ask: What in the world is this degenerate doing on a university campus as a professor? Isn’t there a journalist anywhere wondering how the study of – no, the glorification of – pornography qualifies as “higher education”? Isn’t anyone wondering what kind of education parents are buying for the $57,055 annual tuition?

No wonder the school thus far has refused to take action against this disgusting person. That would require courage, and ethics and simple decency, none of which appear to be in any supply in the University of California system.

I dunno about that, but I did wonder how they got that figure. It's so way over the top for a state school. So I went looking, and found a cost page, and played with the options looking for the most expensive figure:
                      2013-2014 Undergraduate
                      California Non-Resident University Residence Halls
                      Tuition $12192
                      Campus Based Fees $1554
                      Books And Supplies $1444
                      Health Care Allowance $2414
                      Loan Fees $126
                      Room and Board $13805
                      Personal Expenses $1479
                      Telephone/Cell Phone $310
                      Transportation $853
                      Non-Resident Tuition Fee $22021
                      Additional Non-Resident Education Fee $857
                      Total $57055

                      There it is.

Doesn't look like Bozell and Graham are all that interested in honest reporting. Makes you wonder if they lack courage, and ethics and simple decency.
