Is Obamacare making the mass abuse of ERs worse?

Once Obamacare took full effect, supporters aver, people abusing emergency room (ER) service would be much, much fewer, because many more poor people than before would have insurance. But no, so far, the ER imbroglio is worse, Dr Marc Micozzi said in an op-ed piece today (2015 11 16).

It's not clear to me why the problem is much worse than before Obamacare. Sure, socialism is not supposed to work in the economic sphere, but I want specific explanation in this case.

There will be those who will produce charts and graphs proving Obamacare is wonderful. I deal with a LOT of poor and underprivileged, and blue collar workers, and I routinely hear horror stories.

      no its not

because the only Obamacare people can afford has such high deductibles and copays that that they may use the ER once but after that, broken bone or not, they know they cannot go back, unless they are planning on filing bankruptcy,

but after that they stand to lose everything because they cannot file bankruptcy again for a few years. Its a choice between ER and being homeless.

There are winners and losers, and the penalty for being a loser is literally death.

My wife has had excellent insurance through her work, but Obamacare is screwing that up bigtime. It's like - "we're not happy til EVERYBODY's not happy"

my wife HAD excellent insurance through her work, but the owners sold to people from India who decided not to keep the Americans , they had their own family to employ.
After that she got another good job with good insurance, but the company got rid of her job and now a contractor took over that service so its part time with no benefits.

Its not just us, but one of the accounts I have does the same thing to their employees, even the mail room staff now works for a contractor

(working for a contractor is like going to a building , where the employees there are citizens, but you're not, you're just a 'guest worker' , its like before there were ever unions)

That company now is going to get rid of its cafeteria staff and take contractor bids for food service. The cafeteria staff doesn't know this yet. They were pretty smug, being "associates" and enjoying all the benefits of that company. Too bad, its coming to an end for them.

Because Obamacare didn't actually solve any problems with our healthcare industry. It simply exacerbated existing problems.

The "reporting" for Obamacare, and all the regs that go with it, make it much EASIER for business people if they just use temps or contractors. This is another one of those "it makes liberals feel good but screws up everybody else" things.

              BUT... the charts and graphs!!!!!!

but its making my job easier.

I am area supervisor for janitorial company. All that means is I am responsible for our accounts getting service no matter what, even if I have to do the work myself (and often have very long long days)

When I started , the economy was good, good workers had good jobs , and that meant the company I work for had to scrape the bottom of the barrel and get whats left, (you know, they cold mirror test, if they leave a cloud on the cold mirror from their breathing, that means they're still alive, and therefore, hired!)

                That made my job horrible.

But fortunately, the economy sank, company owners shut down their factories (not all of them of course) and the factories that had foundries to make their small parts began to outsource so quite a few good high quality workers (i.e., people who are responsible and have good work ethic) found themselves unemployed.

Many of them in factories my crews cleaned (that means me too, everytime my workers stopped showing up).

and now, some of the people I used to clean up after are working for me.

Even though they are making less than half what they were used to, even though they can barely pay their bills now , they nevertheless appreciate having a job and rarely call in sick.

                lucky me.

I interviewed for a job a year ago that had only a handful of full-time employees, and everybody else was hired as "seasonal". You still basically worked full-time, but you would be laid off for one or two months each year, and you didn't get benefits. They said it was because of Obamacare making it too expensive to insure their workers, so they turned the majority of their staff into "seasonal "workers. It was either that or close the business.

I'm curious your definition of the phrase "works just fine". Is this one of those "Government insurance is great! I only had to wait three years for hernia surgery!" sort of things?

50 days is the average wait time for surgical procedures. Certain things have longer wait lists for obvious reasons, such as transplants which depend on available donors.

Yup. I work for a company that had nearly three-quarters full time workers before Obama and now has between a fifth and a quarter full timers. While giving us part timers an extra 50¢ raise this August they took away our vacations and have really cracked down on making sure we stay under 30 hrs/week (nobody is supposed to get more than 26). For two months after the raise I was getting 20 hrs a week to make sure I wasn't averaging 30.

I'm always still in trouble again

It truly amazes me the jackwagons that still claim this is "working" just because they can find charts and graphs to verify whatever aspect they think proves it is. It really plays havoc in the workplace in some of the weirdest ways. I mean, this thing has got its hooks and tentacles in all kinds of aspects of life that are none of the government's business. My wife's cancer doctor - the local one - has said he can't see her anymore because they have had to combine with another clinic with a whole different set of requirements for patients. More to the point, they sold out their practice to a conglomerate so they can have the resources to do all the asinine "reporting" and record keeping that Obama wants.
