    Mad I say!

Graduation ceremonies might still be going on if Dublin schools had asked all of its valedictorians to speak.

    There were 222 of them.

That means two out of every 10 graduates at Dublin’s three high schools received top honors this year. Dublin Scioto had 44 valedictorians, Dublin Jerome had 82, and Dublin Coffman had 96.

“I can’t say I’ve heard of that many,” said David Hawkins, executive director for educational content and policy with the National Association of College Admissions Counseling. He’s aware of high schools with 20-some valedictorians in a class but not as many as Coffman’s.

The valedictorian was once the single highest-performing graduate — and some districts, such as Hilliard and South-Western, still adhere to the practice. But experts say it’s more typical to see multiple valedictorians or none at all as educators try eliminate the competition among students to be No. 1 of their class.

Why do our leftists here typically refrain from threads like this?

That is the problem, if every one is exceptional then no one is exceptional. And that is why many much poorer countries like Vietnam are beating us in math and the sciences. And why what my mother learned, only graduating the eight grade, would rival what many college students know today.

            Don't reward excellence!

Pull the top achievers down, or falsely push everybody else up to their level.

My brother, former Marine, and now a Pastor near a Marine Base in North Carolina (yeah, that one), tells of the "dummying down" of the qualifications for all of the elite forces for the various branches of the military. His congregation is mostly made up of Marine families. He says the guys who talk to him about "what it's like now" in the Corps are pretty much demoralized with regards to the once proud special units.

It's bad enough that this is in academia, but - sheesh - our military!

It's another example of the hyper-worship of "equality" at the expense of the truly exceptional. And it isn't inconsequential.

                    Take your pick:

We don't have that many leftists.
                    It's a seer thread, and he's nuts.
                    It's a policy they don't support anyway.

                    And my personal favorite:

Valedictorian in high school doesn't mean squat without a decent ACT or SAT to go with it.

And an ACT/SAT doesn't mean squat unless you got the grades to back them up.
You can do bad on these tests and still have good grades.

Not even if it comes with a fancy certificate in a gold frame?

So first you complain that leftists don't bother themselves with seer's threads, then say they indulge mediocrity too much? The irony is not lost on me.
                              Don't call it a comeback. It's a riposte.
