Nuanced thinking is tough one to achieve. Most responders chose a non-nuanced perspective of those they oppose.

It doesn't take much Googling at all to show that some of the early evangelists of the Gay Rights movement were also associated with NAMBLA.

Conservatives repeating false claims on the subject is quite widespread on the internet. It's basically out and out malicious slander. As with Adrift in this thread, most of them seem to think that they can fear-monger about gay rights in the present day by making allegations about what someone told them that pedophiles claimed happened 50 years ago.

Wikipedia is HARDLY a conservative website. And, in my younger days, as a police officer, I had to protect the Gay Rights Parade float AND the NAMBLA float right behind it from the crowds.

Apparently he stood up for NAMBLA's first-amendment rights and opposed attempts to prohibit them expressing their opinions... how terrible...? It doesn't suggest he was ever a member of them, and the Talk page makes quite clear in the extensive discussion of the subject there that there is simply no evidence at all of any connection between him and NAMBLA.

Yes, NAMBLA existed...

No one denies that. The issue I have is when people misinterpret and misconstrue the existence of NAMBLA decades ago as a way to say poisonous things against gay rights in the present, painting those supportive of the gay rights movement with broad brush strokes that imply we have an 'agenda' to support pedophiles, which is both ridiculously absurd and utterly offensive. The worldwide gay rights movement is so inherently grass-roots that it is impossible for there to even be an overall agenda. Even talking as if individual "leaders" within the movement matter or have any relevance, is a fundamental mistake that anti-gay conservatives seem prone to making.

Obviously if the mods do close the thread, no one will be able to post so it won't be an issue. However, as long as people continue to say incredibly offensive and utterly slanderous things, I will continue to call them out on it.
