I see transexuality as part of the already established gay/lesbian movement.

Homosexuals are now widely accepted and their behaviour normalised in the USA, and any opposition vilified. But the same is hardly true for transsexuals, which is why the fight remains.

There was that whole thread on transsexuals being purposely run down by some guy in a car, but that turned out to be a pack of lies, and the person in question was dealing in drugs and prostitution. Hardly the poster child for the cause.

I was simply pointing out that an agenda did exist. Whether there's something wrong with it or not is another debate (as is whether or not the facts being presented are true, I imagine).

I watched the film last winter, and I didn't come away with the impression that the film particularly emphasized his homosexuality.

I agree. I was surprised how little of his homosexuality was mentioned as well, but there are key elements in the film that encourage the viewer to sympathize with a totally false impression

He was not ostracized, nor was he a closeted homosexual. He was open about his homosexuality with his colleagues, and for the most part it seems his sexual orientation was accepted in the liberal environment at Cambridge. Turing's chemical castration, while real, and terrible, didn't cause him to suffer the debilitating effects we see in the film, and in fact, he took to studying the effects as part of research into mathematical biology. He may or may not have committed suicide, but it had nothing to do with the chemical castration. His death occurred some 14 months after he ended his treatment, and if it was suicide, it may have had more in common to do with his obsession with Snow White than it did his sexual orientation.

Obviously the mention was there, but for some reason what resonated with me wasn't his sexuality so much as the loneliness that I perceived he felt. It seemed to be displaying a universal theme with his homosexuality as the backdrop.

His sense of loneliness was also inaccurately portrayed, as was the underlying premise that he was somewhere on the autism spectrum scale. As this Slate article points out, his biographer claimed that Turing had a "keen sense of humor and close friends. To be sure, Hodges paints Turing as shy, eccentric, and impatient with irrationality, but Cumberbatch’s narcissistic, detached Alan has more in common with the actor’s title character in Sherlock than with the Turing of Hodges’ biography. One of Turing’s colleagues at Bletchley Park later recalled him as 'a very easily approachable man' and said 'we were very very fond of him'; none of this is reflected in the film."

Your posts in this thread contain numerous factual inaccuracies... so I am left wondering what sources you've been getting your weird information from.

Prior to playing Turing in the movie, Benedict Cumberbatch read quite a few biographies of Turing to research the man so he could play the character accurately. He choose to make limited stylistic changes (particularly lisping less than the real Turing) to make the character more comprehensible to the audience.

NAMBLA was never connected with any mainstream gay rights movement and has never wielded any political power or influence within the wider gay rights movement. When the first gay rights parade was held, the organizers made it open to everyone, and NAMBLA put a float in the parade without the knowledge of the organizers. This caused so much offence and outrage among the gay community of the time that NAMBLA was immediately banned from ever participating again. Your factual misrepresentations about "years of working together" are highly slanderous and offensive toward everyone who has done any sort of campaigning or advocacy for gay rights, myself included. If you are interested in the topic of pedophiles getting into positions of power, you're much better looking into the Catholic church and the Republican party, both of whom have had a significant number of more recent scandals on the topic. Edit: Ah, I reread your posts and I see your source of the claim was the pedophiles... do you always believe all claims that pedophiles make about how what they do is acceptable, or just when their made-up claims conveniently fuel your anti-gay rhetoric?

It doesn't take much Googling at all to show that some of the early evangelists of the Gay Rights movement were also associated with NAMBLA.
