  • Just like us: at least half of gay marriages open

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/29/us/29sfmetro.html

Love brought the middle-age couple together — they wed during California’s brief legal window for same-sex marriage. But they knew from the beginning that their bond would be forged on their own terms, including what they call “play” with other women.

    ...

A study to be released next month is offering a rare glimpse inside gay relationships and reveals that monogamy is not a central feature for many. Some gay men and lesbians argue that, as a result, they have stronger, longer-lasting and more honest relationships. And while that may sound counterintuitive, some experts say boundary-challenging gay relationships represent an evolution in marriage — one that might point the way for the survival of the institution.

New research at San Francisco State University reveals just how common open relationships are among gay men and lesbians in the Bay Area. The Gay Couples Study has followed 556 male couples for three years — about 50 percent of those surveyed have sex outside their relationships, with the knowledge and approval of their partners.

    ...

None of this is news in the gay community, but few will speak publicly about it. Of the dozen people in open relationships contacted for this column, no one would agree to use his or her full name, citing privacy concerns. They also worried that discussing the subject could undermine the legal fight for same-sex marriage.
Looks like the taoist moderates at NYT don't feel the need to push the lie that gays are no more promiscuous than normal people anymore. I can appreciate the fantastic propaganda campaign they waged, well played gents. Enjoy another crushing defeat, conservatives.
"As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths." Isaiah 3:12

Yeah who would think about doing a study on naturally desired human behavior in an area with few to no restrictions on it.

Is the solution, then, to have more restrictions on gay and lesbian behavior in these areas? I wouldn't doubt that when given free reign and no social regulation, human beings are horrible. I've been to Vegas. Question is, is this a function of gay and lesbian relationships, or of human nature unrestrained? If the latter, then I'd guess the study is reflecting a much, much larger issue in western society today.

The solution is to stop pretending it's not a mental disorder with serious consequences and find a cure.

It's a function of gay relationships. The Bay Area doesn't have its reputation because it magically makes people act like degenerates, it's the other way around.

Agreed. The solution is to stop pretending and instead continue knowing that it's not a mental disorder and therefore doesn't need a cure.

he posted it about an hour after the post he was responding to. If it took him all day to come up with that response, then he must have access to a time machine.
                  Don't call it a comeback. It's a riposte.

SP, you gotta stop listening to every single scientific institution and start listening to commenters on the internet.

Ignoring scientific institutions worked out pretty well for Galileo in the end.

                        That's right, D.E., you're just like Galileo.

"I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump
"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism" - George Orwell
"[Capitalism] as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of evils. I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy" - Albert Einstein

I'm more like the kid from The Emperor's New Clothes. Unlike heliocentrism, gay deviance is obvious to most people and they have to be mentally molested into pretending otherwise

Not really close and no cigar. More like less than a second for the thought to occur and less than twenty seconds to type it up. Because, really, it's a well-established fact that homosexuality itself is not substantially like other mental issues that clearly are disorders.
