  • Left Throwing Hillary Under The Bus?

I mean if Hillary has lost Move On, oh boy...

The poll was commissioned and paid for by MoveOn.org Political Action on behalf of the Run Warren Run campaign. The poll described Sen. Warren’s positions and included quotes from Sen. Warren explaining her views, but attributed them to “a hypothetical candidate for president.”

“When voters in battleground states from Colorado to Florida to Ohio turn out to support a candidate in 2016 they’ll be looking for a leader who fights for working and middle class families the way Elizabeth Warren does,” said Ilya Sheyman, executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action. “We’ve seen time and again that Senator Warren’s message and her record of standing up to corporate interests and fighting for the rest of us has immense support from all pockets of America. It’s clear that this is Elizabeth Warren’s moment, and we’re making our case to Sen. Warren that the country will be better off if she runs, and that she has the support needed to enter the race and run a powerful campaign.”

If Warren runs, she'll win. That's been fairly obvious for a while now. It's hard to tell if she's at all interested in doing that though.

She won't win - I don't think there are that many stupid people.

Warren is a hypocrite on her populism so she won't win, and in the unlikely case that she does she won't achieve anything since wall street owns both parties. It would be fun if she wins though, there hasn't been an impeachment in a while.

But no rational person would believe that Warren has any proven ability to govern.

Um, she's been a Senator, you do realize they perform a governing role right? She's been notably quite successful at getting her legislation passed, making her one of the few people to successfully get any sort of reform legislation through the grid-locked congress of the last few years.

I understand there's now an overwhelming Republican obsession with the idea that being a state governor is the crucial experience required to run for President. But it could be equally argued that state governors aren't familiar with the intricacies of D.C. and therefore someone from the Congress or Senate has much more of the experience actually required to be President.

That is not the same as governing - like in actually running a state. And what bills did she get passed into law?

I was primarily thinking of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, although looking that up now, I am reminded that she wasn't yet in the Senate when she proposed that organisation.

                        Nonsense.

My main criteria for political candidates in general are intelligence, integrity, and policies I agree with. I've never been much interested in whether they have experience - that's something they can get on the job, whereas those other things they are highly unlikely to get on the job. Experience is even less relevant for Presidents because they have so many advisers and staff to help them.

There is no intelligence requirement for voting. And we elected a community organizer.

If by win the Democratic nomination, you are quite likely right. If you mean the presidential election... I wouldn't bet on it.

I'm not sure if America is willing to elect yet another first term Democrat Senator. And one who pretended to be of Native American heritage while a professor at Harvard.

As Darth E notes, Warren is a "hypocrite on her populism" pretending on the one hand to being opposed to avaricious banks and corporations while being a major supporter of subsidizing the Export-Import Bank which has the reputation of favoring special interests ahead of those of the U.S. taxpayer. So while publicly claiming to be against "greedy Wall Street bullies" behind the scenes she runs interference for them so that they can keep getting a better credit deal than is available in the marketplace giving them a significant competitive edge over smaller businesses who aren't so politically connected.

Further, the mega-banks that Warren likes to complains about in public are actually some of the biggest beneficiaries of the Export-Import Bank. They get to collect princely sums in interest rates and fees on the billions that they loan with little risk to themselves. This is precisely the kind of favoritism that she claims that she supposedly so strongly opposes.

And like Hillary, who was rightfully blasted for pretending to be poor ("dead broke"), Warren likes to claim that she's not among the wealthy[1] although her wealth is estimated by CNN to be somewhere between $3.7 and $10 million[2].

Source: Elizabeth Warren is worth millions

Warren, the Harvard bankruptcy law professor elected to the Senate in 2012, is worth between $3.7 million and $10 million.

That's not including the three-story Victorian home in Cambridge, Mass., that she owns with her husband and fellow Harvard law professor, Bruce Mann. It's now assessed at $1.9 million, according to city property records.

While she's not in the uppermost wealth echelon of Congress, she's not doing too badly either. Roll Call recently ranked her the 76th wealthiest out of 541 senators and representatives, based on her minimum net worth in 2013.

Her average net worth of $8.75 million, including her home, secures her a spot the Top 1% bracket in terms of wealth.

Actually, a better comparison would probably be to Michael Moore proclaiming that "I'm not in the one percent" on Piers Morgan's now defunct CNN program during the Occupy Wall Street rioting (a claim that he later had to admit was utter poppycock).

And it should be noted that the $1.9 million assessment for her house appears to be on the low side. The real estate website Zillow.com estimates that the house’s value today is actually closer to $2.4 million.

As an aside Warren is on record as declaring that "There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody." As well as "Republicans believe this country should work for those who are rich, those who are powerful, those who can hire armies of lobbyists and lawyers." Yet somehow she left out that she's one of those "who are rich, those who are powerful, those who can hire armies of lobbyists and lawyers."

                              1. "I realize there are some wealthy individuals – I’m not one of them." Warren to MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell in 2012.

                              2. Others point out that according to the Personal Financial Disclosure form she filed to run for Senate shows that she’s worth as much as $14.5 million.
